VENUS FLYTRAP ON BROADWAY!!
 Nov 8 2010, 03:54:09 PM
Well, I have tickets for Saturday, and have heard some good things. I would not worry too much about shilling because the tickets are so cheap - expecially for New York. I am looking forward to it.
2010 Tony Performances

Do closed shows even get to perform?
La Cage Aux Folles Tribute Parody Lyric
 Apr 19 2010, 02:26:56 AM
I can't tell you what melody to sing this song to- but this song Is What It Is)

Jerry wrote a great show
La Cage Aux Folles
Is that show's name.
It's
his biggest hit, s-
-ince he wrote Hello Dolly and Mame.
When Dear World, The Grand Tour, Mack and Mabel all were misses,
Who knew that he could have a hit as big as this is!
La Cage was a hit, La Cage is a smash, La Cage is the show of all time!

La Cage won Tony Awards
Best Musical and Score,

Best Revival - Has this ever happened before?

La Cage won Tony Awards
Best Musical and Score,
No honors higher.
Well, what did you think?
They would go to the Rink?
Or Maltby and Shire?
La Cage even beat out Sunday in the Park by Sondheim.
It's those tunes you can hum of which the folks have found that they are fond I'm
Sure you will agree.
If you go see
La Cage Aux Folles by Jerry.

(sung to a song I cannot name, but It is What It is)

Fanny, Fanny, Fanny

Can't help but wonder what Rodgers and Hammerstein would have done with this show if they had not been so offended by David Merrick asking that his name be above the title that they dropped out without any negotiation whatsoever...this would probably have become a classic instead of the chestnut it is...
Ragtime Question
 Jan 23 2010, 02:45:48 PM
I would like to see some reference documenting the veracity of this "true anecdote." I doubt it...Houdini was a vigorous skeptic who had no patience for the many fakes of his day. I am not aware he ever confessed to having any experience that he would describe as mystical...certainly not from a phony like Cayce.
Ragtime Question
 Jan 23 2010, 11:19:10 AM
sung to the tune of a a fake Austrian folk song about a little white mountain flower:

Edgar:
Warn the Duke! Warn the Duke!
Houdini:
Kid, I'm putting a show on
Sure I'd like
something Pysch-
ic but need more to go on.
I meet dukes almost everyday
I'm a famed magician.
I can't act
On some inexact
Strange little boy's premonition.

How was final FINIANS performance?
 Jan 20 2010, 03:53:32 PM
allofmylife-
I did not see Finian's - I only reported what others said about it who had seen it and did not share the generally favorable feelings expressed in this thread...and those people I know who did see it were mature, well informed people, familiar with the show (having even been involved with a regional production of it I think at one time) and they found this production flat.

How was final FINIANS performance?

the only people I know what saw it agree with WestVillage--
SNOOZEFEST-flat, no chemistry....borinig. and these are people who see just about everything on Broadway and quite a bit else, so they are not just tourists looking for a mega-musical.

God of Carnage Opinions
 Jan 18 2010, 03:10:45 PM
I saw the penultimate performance by the original cast and found the play not up to the performances. All of the actors did the best with what they were given by the author. What they were given was not in my opinion terribly thought provoking, original, interesting or unsettling. In a word-
Meh.

What was cut out of the Ragtime revival?
 Jan 12 2010, 11:28:16 AM
Maybe the point of the car being propelled by Coalhouse was that Coalhouse had to be the engine of his own dreams, as we all do, as Tateh was...the car was the silhouette of the American Dream not the actual realization of it....
...that said, I did not think it worked the way it was done either.

Riedel: From riches to 'Ragtime'
 Jan 10 2010, 12:11:58 PM
Maybe the best thing is for someone to post a video of Mr Riedel pulling one of his "go ahead and punch me" performances and post it on the web for all to see...
Riedel: From riches to 'Ragtime'
 Jan 9 2010, 10:22:12 PM
The odd thing is that Riedel never even saw this production of Ragtime. Never went. So he calls it a bore without ever actually having seen it. and doing so based on prior productions is sort of dishonest, or at least misleading. Odd that he has taken three shots at a show he never saw.
Next at the Neil Simon?

sometimes people make mistakes...
bwaylvsong finally sees Ragtime!
 Jan 6 2010, 10:17:55 AM
My understanding from those in the know is that all cuts were made for time...the first act is pretty long as it is...and from the beginning they wrestled with some way to get the length down on that first act especially. Be grateful that some of the proposed cuts that were floated were shot down by the director...Not sure I can be specific here, but PM me if you want an example.
re: Will Ragtime Really Close on JAN 10th???

"^^Does anyone know of an upcoming show that wants to move in to the Neil Simon?"

..I believe there are clues...going around and around.

When the next show goes in---we will see who knows what and who does not...and there will be a justified "I told you so" whichever way it plays out...so there.
