Doesn't it bug you when...
 Sep 10 2010, 06:09:56 PM
it bugs me that my dad says he's taking me to see "that one play" because he doesn't want to admit he's going to see a musical. that really pisses me off.

Sweeney Todd - A Little Priest Question
 Sep 4 2010, 02:17:53 PM
yea, Angela does a very clear "rear" and Patti's sounds more like "royal". and it would be very unlike Sondheim to reuse a word like that. so i guess i was wrong. sorry, ghostlight. sorry, musicaldudepeter.

i don't have a libretto, but i'm fairly sure it's "royal" both times.

not to be a prick, but it's "royal admiral". she's just using a british accent when she says it.
Who is your favourite EVITA?

my favorite Hammerstein lyrics:

"Climb every mountain
Ford every stream
Follow every rainbow
Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give
Every day of your life
For as long as you live"

Self-made theatre fans

i am! true, my father used to bring us out community productions of Peter Pan or Joseph once in a while but it was more about getting the kids to shut up more than exposing us to art. i was the only one to catch on and really seek out theater. i think my dad sparked it, i (alone) helped my interest survive (for a good 8 years or so) until my best friend came along and really poured on the lighter fluid.

Anger at Sondheim concert at Ravinia
 Aug 4 2010, 01:07:32 PM
"They did Sweeney Todd a few years ago at Ravinia and I think Pirelli was played by a woman. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?"

yea, 2005 John Doyle revival pirelli was played by Donna Lynne Champlin. but in other productions (original b'way, original london, etc.) the role was played by a man.

Everyone Admit Your Age on Broadwayworld
 Jul 28 2010, 11:25:58 AM
(this kind of feels like an AA meeting with everyone starting out with their age, haha.)
i'm 14 (there i go) and i think the reason i like older shows so much more is because those are the ones i've always been watching at home. what i watched was not influenced by what had a current production so much as which library VHS was next in line on the shelf.

what i noticed in this thread is: all the younger fans standing up for their tastes announce Sondheim as old. he may have writte

Your Favorite Piece of Stage Magic

pretty much all of The Last Five years, but especially "The Next Ten Minutes", how the beginning and end line up so seamlessly, and "Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You". just amazing.

Is it really THAT hard to research a musical?
 Jun 9 2010, 11:52:22 PM
maggie- (enter stage left) it's okay, danny. we'll stick together. anyway, we're done with small minded middle schoolers now. high school has to be better, right?

Oliver Broadway Revival?
 May 19 2010, 06:54:30 PM
(as to the original question) the last production only ran for 17 performances not because of the show itself, but because of timing. obviously that production had lots of potential, it just wasn't the right time for a b'way revival of any show.
