 Feb 27 2007, 08:44:41 AM
Hi there,

Just a reminder that tonight at 9:30, the CD release party will be held for the original cast recording of The View From Here, a musical that was presented in the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2005. The album was recently named one of the top ten cast recordings of of 2006 by TalkinBroadway's own Rob Lester, and has started to garner quite a bit of attention.

The party will be held in Chelsea at the Metropolitan Room from 9:30 - 11:00, and - though encouraged - reservations are not necessary. $20 cover and 2 drink minimum BUT, all in attendance receive a free copy of the CD!

http://www.MetropolitanRoom.com for more information

or visit http://cdbaby.com/cd/tvfham to listen/buy/review/etc. All are appreciated!

Tonight's event will feature a performance of material from the show featuring its original star Shonn Wiley, accompanied by David Epstein and Tim Byrne, and hosted by composer/lyricist Timothy Huang.

Reservations are encouraged, but not necessary. Hope to see some of you at the Metropolitan Room, it's certain to be a good time with some great folks and terrific music.

re: How much of HELLO, DOLLY did Herman write?
 Sep 15 2006, 08:28:23 AM
Wait, back up, please... Bock and Harnick didn't write "half the score" of FIDDLER? That's libelous, if you ask me, not to mention inaccurate. Would "VeuveClicquot" care to offer some facts? Or even a more direct accusation (like, name one song?)

Regarding DOLLY, don't forget that dance arranger Peter Howard contributed a great deal to the overall sound of the score and is credited with the ragtime figures at the beginning of "I Put My Hand In", as well as the leitmotif that ap

John Lloyd Young gets my vote!

My vote was for John Lloyd Young. What a spectacular star-turn of a Broadway debut.
re: Merrily Off Bway or Leicester? and Spider Woman Chita or Vanessa?
 Dec 18 2005, 12:06:07 PM
Oh, wow, really - if you don't have the OBC of Merrily, there's no other option. I would buy the York/Off-Broadway cast and save Leicester for last. The Leicester recording just bothers me... a lot.

And... Chita, sure. But, there are some truly lovely things about the Vanessa Williams recording.

Playhouse Theatre/Jack Lawrence Theatre?
 Oct 29 2005, 02:07:36 PM
Was wondering if someone could help clarify something for me...

I'm curious about The Playhouse Theatre, which was ultimately renamed the Jack Lawrence Theatre... and is now an apartment building on W. 48th Street. I know that it was technically a Broadway house - for the original production of QUILTERS among other things... does anyone know how many seats it had? Was it sometimes used as an off-Broadway house - with seats roped off? Or did it become a Broadway house when it became the

Boy, that website sure is nice...

WOW - Craig Brockman just alerted me to the monster I created... This is what I get for coming out of lurkdom. Amazing!

I really have nothing much to say about the bulk of things being said back and forth here... but I did want to respond to something one person said about the website... Yes, many shows do play sound clips and what-not, and many even do it in a rapid-fire succession. And, many shows have better designed and more content-fille

re: How smart is the Jersey Boys website?

Wow, that was my first bump ever. I think it's bumpworthy, though. I have had my browser on that site for the past 24 hours. I can't stop listening. Hm.
How smart is the Jersey Boys website?

So, I haven't seen the show yet... but, I just checked out the website...

And what a brilliant plan of attack.

Instead of staying on one song, they hit you with everything they've got. And boy do they have a lot.

I mean, jeez, these songs take me back to a great place. And just sitting here listening to everything - knowing how many incredible Four Seasons songs I grew up on... it's transporting. Which is exactly what great theatre should be.

Giving away 50% of one's profits, and offering *every* member of the community a chance to see a show, while staying comfortable within their own budget, is deemed "gross behavior"?

I'm not following...

The recording of "Five and a Half Minutes" that's currently available on the website is a demo sung by Mary Testa.

"Celia sounds AMAZING on say the word...they used to have ALOT more MP3's up and i wished they had more from Sarah Brown."

More will be coming soon, including "If I Were A Bell" and "Marry The Man Today"

re: Sondheim suggestions
 Jan 11 2005, 11:49:48 AM
Oh, I would say buy the original Broadway cast recording of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. Be sure to get the original cast first, though, and not either of the revival recordings... The cover has a Hirschfeld of the show, with Sondheim's picture in the center of it. But, there's really not a bad place to start - it all depends on what you respond to. I would strongly suggest starting with the original cast recordings, before you get revival casts, however.
