So, I haven't seen the show yet... but, I just checked out the website...

And what a brilliant plan of attack.

Instead of staying on one song, they hit you with everything they've got. And boy do they have a lot.

I mean, jeez, these songs take me back to a great place. And just sitting here listening to everything - knowing how many incredible Four Seasons songs I grew up on... it's transporting. Which is exactly what great theatre should be.

Such smart marketing. I know that I'm not alone here. I can't wait to see the show.

So brilliantly infectious... Updated On: 10/30/05 at 04:40 PM

Wow, that was my first bump ever. I think it's bumpworthy, though. I have had my browser on that site for the past 24 hours. I can't stop listening. Hm.

Those songs are extremely obnoxious and the show itself seems pointless and unworthy of being housed in the new August Wilson Theatre.

Regardless of anything else, as far as I know, it was not and had no plans to be the August Wilson Theatre when Jersey Boys booked the house. In fact, it was still the Virginia when performances started.

Dear 442namffug, Please don't call something "pointless and unworthy" until you have seen it. The same company that renamed the Virginia Theater in August Wilson's honor also thought that Jersey Boys was worthy of having a home on Broadway.

Dear calexan, I'll do whatever the hell I want. If I think something is pointless and doesn't deserve to be on Broadway over something else (which is obviously the case of Jersey Boys), I'll say it.

Wow. Someone has a bad attitude in this thread. Well a couple of people do.

I think some people still don't understand the real meaning of a shill. I doubt MichaelCassaera is being paid to to post how smart the JB website is.

Just from word of mouth, I think this one might be good. I know my parents are seeing it with friends, and I might actually go see it myself, because I love The Four Seasons.

A bit of a digression; I was talking to one of my friends today about the new season, and mentioned Jersey Boys. She had no idea who The Four Seasons were. (As a teenager, I'm a bit ashamed at how ignorant our generation has become.) But as soon as I started singing some of their well known songs ("December, 1963," "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You", "Big Girls Don't Cry" et cetera.) she jumped right in and sang them with me, then said "That's who sings those songs?!" I find this happening a lot. We know the songs, just not the artist. I swear, high schools need a course on past generations of music.

I'm also a bit addicted to refreshing the website and listening to the songs. My neighborhood is lucky I don't feel like singing today.

Ljay...If you are referring to me, you have misconstrued my comments and need to spend more time carefully READING other posts rather than CRITIQUING them.

My opinion is that Jersey Boys is an unnecessary piece of theatre. That is far from a "bad attitude" and closer to "the truth."

P.S.

Answering the question "How smart is the Jersey Boys website?" I don't see what is smart about it at all. All websites for Broadway show play a variety of songs, but usually include more features than this one. The site is rather ordinary and underwhelming.

Theatre should be original, unique, inspiring, creative, moving, thought provoking, and academic.

Jersey Boys is none of those. Don't even think you can try to convince anyone (yourself included) otherwise.

Today, Broadway is splattered with empty revivals, silly adaptations, and pointless jukebox musicals that request nothing of their audience.

RIP Broadway I guess.

442 - you haven't answered the question. Have you actually seen Jersey Boys? Or are you just basing it on your bias towards these types of musicals?

As for the website, I'm not a shill and many shows do have sound clips on their website. Many don't prior to the album being released. What IS smart is putting the songs on the site since they are easy recongnizable and enjoyable for those who appreciate the music.

For those that don't appreciate the music or the idea of learning more - well, there's nothing they could put on the site to entice you, now is there?

That is where you are wrong Craig.

They could announce the closing of Jersey Boys. That would make me happy, and give 1% of hope to Broadway.

Whatever your beef is with the show, you have still failed to answer whether or not you have seen it. I am guessing you haven't which therefore puts you at a disadvantage for making comments with validity regarding the show's merits.

Of course I have. Quite a painful experience.

I don't judge books by their covers and I *TRY* not to pre-judge shows in the same way (however, when something like "BAD VIBRATIONS" comes along, how could you NOT prejudge?).

So my opinons are based on evidence. Updated On: 10/27/05 at 05:11 PM

442. Nothing in my post was a personal attack. It was an attack on the validity on your comments. Which I still, personally, believe to be inaccurate. Judging from your previous posts on this message board and your vitriol against this show in this thread, it seems unlikely that you wouldn't have substantiated your opinion more in your initial post. That and your choice of words that this show "seems pointless and unworthy of being housed in the new August Wilson Theatre" to me indicate it's a judgement based on your preconceived attitude about the show, not experience. That and the fact it took you several posts to answer what most would consider a simple question.

Jeeze, I'm getting tired of having to prove you wrong. But here it goes again:

By saying "seems pointless" I was insinuating that the website MAKES the show SEEM pointless (as does the show itself, but that's another story). I don't appreciate your accusatory tone, and if you think I am "lying", so be it--that's on you.

Any other questions or statements that I can easily refute?

"and I have pretty much stayed away from posting about it"

Why? What's wrong with an opinon? There is absolutley nothing that can stop me from posting my opinon (as I said, based on evidence and fact).

"but, until you prove you have seen it...I won't be believing you have."

Wow. Thanks for the laugh. Now, all of a sudden, I HAVE to PROVE to you that I have seen the show? What makes you think that I would waste my time trying to convince you of something so trivial? I find you funny. All of you, actually.
