Why were there six nominees for Best Musical in 2022
 Sep 18 2022, 11:01:30 AM

I can only speak for myself, but getting nominated for Best Musical makes me add the CD to my collection. That isn't to say I don't buy CDs of non-nomjnated musicals, but it certainly guarantees the purchase. Again, only speaking for myself.

Given that the rules are changing to increase the number of nominees, it would seem that there is some value in being nominated. The flip side is that if a majority of shows get nominated, doesn't it sort of devalue the award?&nbs

OK, so if I am understanding the rules correctly, there must have been at least nine eligible musicals that came out during the 2021-22 season resulting in the nomination list being bumped up to five. The fact that there were six nominees would imply that there was a tie between the two lowest-rated candidates. Unless there were less than nine eligible le musicals last season, in which case there would have been four nominees, with the fourth tying with two other shows, bumping the grand tota

In looking through the list of Tony nominated musicals, I noticed that the 2021-2022 season holds the record for most nominated musicals - six! There have been a few seasons previous with five nominated musicals, but four has been the norm. Six best musical nominees is something historic, is it not?

I was just curious as to why this is. Was this most recent season an unusually strong one compared to years past? Was it an after effect of making up for lost time as I also saw that there

Of course it is a problem. I was just pointing out that the positive coverage received by the unauthorized stage production of Alien certainly doesn't help educate the masses as to the seriousness of copyright law.

Rather than that illegal production serving as a teachable moment, it was so lauded with no pushback from the media or copyright holders, that I am not in the least bit surprised that the seriousness of copyright infringement is not seen as so serious.

Please help me understand why this is a problem. A school recently decided to infringe copyright to do a stage production of Alien, and not only were they not called out for it but in fact, they received significant positive coverage in the media.

So explain to me why anyone is surprised that by celebrating the unauthorized production of Alien, it has led to other groups deciding that copyright law isn't really serious after all.

Recent Cast Recordings on CD

Do we have any idea how long it takes for Broadway Cast Recordings to make it to CD these days. I was interested in adding this year's Tony award-winning musical, A Strange Loop, to my collection but while the recording seems to have made it as a download, I'm not seeing a release date for a CD copy. Would really like to be able to add it to the shelf.

For that matter, it appears that only 2 of the 6 nominated musicals have made it onto CD thus far, MJ and Girl from the North C
