Kelli is incredible.  I don't think anyone matches her vocally.  I wouldn't expect them to.  Also, that production was directed with an emphasis on the comedy and Kelli delivered on that front too.  Sher isn't really one for comedy so Block approached Lili/Kate's conflicts more seriously, which I thought she did quite well.<

Damn, I'd love to hear Tveit sing Anatoly's songs....maybe at the next "Miscast?"

Not that Nicholas Christopher isn't great, because he is.  These three are very well cast.

Well, maybe a hint.  Broadway has gotten closer to Americana this season in Swept Away (admittedly its songs were not written for the theatre) and Dead Outlaw, and perhaps in past seasons as far back as Big River.   Guettel is aiming closer to Aaron Copland.  Let's just call it "arty Americana."

I like to think that the opposite is going to happen.  This production will lead to a cast recording that can not help but be outstanding, and that it will generate interest in future productions.  Perhaps not in New York, but certainly at reputable regional theaters.
