re: Kaitlin Hopkins to play the mom in Dirty Dancing: Onstage National Tour
 Jul 3 2008, 04:51:06 PM
Kaitlin, Michael Rupert and a then unknown Noah Weisberg were the best things about the workshop that happened right after 9/11. Then it was called the BABY LOVES JOHNNY project because Miramax owned the name DIRTY DANCING.
re: Is the Legally Blonde CD #1 on the Billboard Chart?
 Jul 26 2007, 11:21:05 AM
It's was the Harry Connick double disc of THE PAJAMA GAME / THOU SHALL NOT that took out WICKED from the #1 spot.

edit - You beat me to it!

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/8/2007

Rentboy86, that is what product placement is. Do you think BroadwayWorld just randomly puts up ads for MediaFast Weight Loss or Wal-Mart? This companies buy ad space, just as they do in a Motion Picture, TV Show and now it seems, a Broadway Show to get extra money from corporate companies.

If you do a search, someone gives a ball park figure on how much LEGALLY BLONDE brings in each week in just the product placement deals alone.

I thought massofmen wasn't going to post any

You have to remember, it's not really the percentages that count. It's the gross. They need to make X amount over their weekly nut to make a profit. Plus, with LEGALLY BLONDE they have product placement. So, they are getting paid just to run the show weekly.
re: Encores CDs - Follies vs. Face the Music
 Jul 7 2007, 12:15:15 PM
Bobby is right. The entire production costs for the CD was put up by the Estate of Irving Berlin and then they liscensed it to DRG to release it.

So, instead of being pissed off. Just raise the 100+ Grand and make sure things get recorded.

re: Idina Defying Gravity Single

"EDIT: By the way, Still... is being sold on Amazon and in Virgin Megastore and whatnot..there's not need to buy it on CDBaby; it's cheaper elsewhere. She seems to have worked out something with the label for a re-release because there's now an audience. This happened a year or so ago..."

Just to clarify on this statement. Idina had the rights to STILL for X amount of years (I'm pretty sure it was 2, but don't quote me). So, the CD that you purchase on CD Baby is the one she released

If you are a fan of either Patty Griffin or Mare Winningham, then I would go and see it.

"I'd imagine she figured hell, she's been waiting for a major deal for her whole life, if this is a compromise she has to make to play the game, it's not exactly the worst."

I think Waitress was responding to that comment. Plus after she left Hollywood Records she was signed to Dreamworks Records (which released RENT) but was one of the artists dropped (along with Daphne Rubin-Vega) when Universal bought them out. She put out the HERE EP on her own because at that time she was fed up

re: Question? Who gets to keep the Best Musical Tony?

The lead producer.

I say kudos. They are actually getting PAID to present a show 8 times a week. I wish more producers were more business savvy. True, it can be done more discreetly. But, it's LEGALLY BLONDE! Elle is suppose to be about commercialism. I take it no one has read the original novel which the movie was based on. Yes, it was based on a book first.

Smucker's Presents "________________"

This is coming from someone who is posting on a message board, which includes at this moment ads for WAL-MART, NATIONAL LAMPOON PRESENTS..., ORAL B - just to name a few.

I don't see you saying the same thing to BroadwayWorld, because they take money from business to advertise and their website.

It's called BUSINESS. Last I heard, people were in business to make MONEY.

What everyone fails to realize is that LB has "product placement", so the producers (as well as the show) are being paid a monthly (sometimes weekly) sum just have the show up and running. This amount does not show in the weekly gross, because that is ticket sales only. So, literally the show could be running at 60% and still making money. As it is, with it at 90% and higher, it's raking in the dough.
re: I LOVE TERRENCE MANN!
 Mar 30 2007, 01:15:59 PM
Terry Mann co-wrote the musical with Jerome Korman using William Shakepeare's original words for his musical version of ROMEO & JULIET, which originally starred a young Patrick Wilson and Irene Molloy (who was the lead in the US version of WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND).

There was also a Tokyo production in 2001 as well.

re: Shame on Jerry Mitchell/Legally Blonde

So, you basically started a post condemning Jerry Mitchell ("Shame on Jerry Mitchell") and now all of a sudden you have "flip-flopped" on your original post.

I agree, you are like the Bush Administration.
