Patti Lupone Oscar campaign thread  Apr 22 2023, 02:22:16 AM

I saw this tonight, appropriately for Patti’s birthday! Besides Patti, there are other Theatre vets like Nathan Lane, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Richard Kind.

The movie takes 3 hours to tell very little story. The whole movie is just artistic folderol and filler. You wait and wait for the story to be told and it never happens, so you feel dumb for missing the story at all, if there is one. It’s also predictable and aggravating, but never boring at least. It’s the

Sorkin and Sher to revive CAMELOT for Broadway  Apr 2 2023, 01:06:37 AM

I have been anticipating a full scale Broadway revival of Camelot since I played Mordred decades ago. I'm very passionate and have a lot of feelings about how to present the show and make it actually work.

It doesn't sound, in my opinion, Sher or Sorkin fixed any of the show's flaws.

When you cut all the magic out and take the show literally, you're left with a hollow 3 1/2 hour love triangle.

And where is the pageantry? The set pics look more depres

1776's Sara Porkalob Brutally Honest Vulture Article  Oct 17 2022, 12:56:00 AM

Here's the thing. In July, I was fired from my job of 5 years that I loved because I stupidly posted something inflammatory about my workplace on Facebook. I removed the post, but the damage was already done. I live in an at-will employment state. My free speech wasn't violated by being fired; as a matter of fact, nothing could be more American than a company releasing you for badmouthing it or other offenses. God bless America, indeed.

Sara is a mess and I'm currentl

Lancaster, PA HS Cancels Hairspray due to racial stuff.  Feb 27 2021, 10:45:10 AM
One of my best friends is the director, or WAS the director, and is heartbroken. She did everything in her power to highlight the important messages in Hairspray. I'm very sad. it made the news this morning.

Shows you thought you would hate but ended up loving...  Nov 1 2019, 12:46:01 PM

I was dragged by a friend to see Parade at the Vivien Beaumont the last week of the show. It sounded like such a depressing story.

Best decision of my life!

Sad News: Ann Crumb has died  Nov 1 2019, 11:08:09 AM

Very sad and shocking news. I'd never seen her live, but was in love with her voice and performance on the Aspects of Love OBC and especially in the London NINE. RIP, Ms. Crumb.

Diahann Carroll has passed away  Oct 4 2019, 12:23:57 PM

Well, this is a day I had been dreading. I know she was suffering from dementia recently but just appeared last year at an autograph convention. I thought she'd stick around longer. Heart = broken.

Madea at BAM  Sep 17 2019, 05:07:21 PM

MEDEA, not Madea! Two different shows!

Best musical adaptations of movies  Jun 14 2019, 10:18:09 AM

Sweet Charity

Nine

A Little Night Music

On the Twentieth Century

And the list should really just end there. At least these are different than the movies and not cash-grabs by greedy producers for stupid people.

What movie would you like to see adapted for Broadway?  Jun 13 2019, 02:36:08 PM

NONE. I'm f'ing sick of the movie to musical cash grabs.

And jukebox musicals can go f themselves too.

Who will succeed Betty Buckley in HELLO, DOLLY! tour?  Jun 7 2019, 10:30:38 AM

Although I'm upset I won't get to see Buckley, I'm over the moon that I'll get to see Carolee play Dolly in Philadelphia! February 2020 can't get here soon enough!

City Center Evita will have Young Eva  Jun 6 2019, 03:54:10 PM

There goes all my desire to see this show. What a profoundly STUPID idea.

(God)Father-(God)Daughter dance songs  May 30 2019, 11:46:48 AM

How about "The First Man You Remember" from Aspects of Love?

Overtures w/ Cut Songs  May 15 2019, 04:12:56 PM

Not really "cut songs" but the Threepenny Opera overture, like the Carousel Waltz, has no music from the rest of the show. It works on its own.

HILLARY AND CLINTON Reviews  Apr 25 2019, 09:51:40 AM

Jean, for us plebeians who never took theater classes 20 years ago in college, please provide the meaning of the word "mugging" and provide examples of Metcalf mugging.

Also, you spelled Bette Davis' name wrong, so how can anyone take you seriously?

The Tony must go to Metcalf, not Jackson. At least people aren't snoring through Hillary and Clinton.

HILLARY AND CLINTON Reviews  Apr 18 2019, 09:59:33 AM

I'm hoping it gets raves, but I feel like it's gonna be a mixed bag. I happened to adore this play. I hope Metcalf wins Tony #3.

Laurie Metcalf and Eddie Izzard in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?  Apr 15 2019, 07:57:14 PM
I am overjoyed with this casting. Laurie Metcalf is truly the queen of Broadway right now.
Hillary and Clinton previews  Apr 15 2019, 07:55:12 PM
Maybe it's because I love Hillary, maybe it's because I love Laurie, but great God did I love Hillary and Clinton. It was an Albee-esque firecracker of play with delicious quips and poignant moments. I laughed through the whole evening yet cried myself to sleep, thinking about another universe I'd rather live in than the one we live in now. And I absolutely loved the framing device of a coin flip.

I went in expecting to be yet again awed by the great Laurie Metcalf, and I was, but I wa
