I'm in the middle of his grandson's autobiography and he writes rather lovingly about how his grandfather returned to his Jewish roots in his later years.

Except for the movie where it ends with him either dying or already dead (it's been a long while since I've seen it, so I don't remember just what his condition was after Jean Simmons stops to show him his son while he's being crucified)
