What a legacy she leaves behind. She truly left her mark on stage, film, and television.

Whoa. I was just thinking of her the other day........
Well, this is a day I had been dreading. I know she was suffering from dementia recently but just appeared last year at an autograph convention. I thought she'd stick around longer. Heart = broken.
One of my favorite Norma Desmond’s and a truly regal woman. RIP Miss Carroll...
Very sad. Her voice is among my favorites-so rich and powerful. Loved her Norma. Saw it five times. I'm going to sound like a relic, but I loved when stars had elegance, class and a sense of dignity. Diahann had it in droves. i feel celebrities are so pedestrian now. I like my gods and goddesses. Diahann's presence elevated my life. She was a force of nature and also an activist for civil rights. Rest in peace you stunning talent. xoxo
Oh my goodness. Saddened by this news. An incredible lady.
Oh my God! I'm shocked by this news. I just pulled out her 'Sunset Blvd' CD to play in the car on my way to work this afternoon. So sad to hear this.
I remember watching her when "Julia" came out. I was around 7 or so. At the time, I was too young to realize the significance of her role until much later. I bought her Sunset Boulevard Canadian recording on MP3. There is one audio cd available for 55.00. The MP3 recording is available for 7.99. She was always a classy lady.

On my first theater trip to New York, I saw Ms. Carroll in Agnes of God. It was the first time I had seen someone who looked like me onstage in an authoritative and powerful role. As a person of color, it's something I've never forgotten. Ms. Carroll was a legend who lived with grace. Rest in peace to a very special woman.
A truly great talent who overcame many challenges to achieve her place in entertainment history.
G*d bless her daughter and the rest of her family/friends for all the memories she left us all.
And apropos of NOTHing in particular, You think they'll dim the lights for this lady?
Odds?

Anyone who hasn't seen her Oscar-nominated performance in 'Claudine' should take a look. She is utterly convincing as what used to be called "a welfare mother". No glitz and no glamour, just a natural and realistic performance that feels lived in.

Here's vintage video of Diahann Carroll and Sammy Davis Jr. singing a medley from ''Porgy & Bess.'' It's from her variety TV show in 1976. Their duet starts around the 5-minute mark.

I think I was living under a rock yesterday and missed this news. How very sad. She was a beautiful and classy lady who set an example of how to live life with grace. I remember seeing her on TV as Julia when I was a kid, but had no idea of how groundbreaking her role was until I was older. I was lucky enough to catch her in the replacement cast of Agnes of God playing the role of the psychiatrist. It was a treat to see her. I had hoped to see her again in On Golden Pond (although I enjoyed Leslie Uggams in that show) and the last revival of A Raisin in the Sun (I skipped it), but she withdrew from both productions. I'm glad I have my memory of Agnes of God. RIP Ms. Carroll.
She owns "A Sleepin' Bee." Perfect rendition. Very talented, stylish, inspirational. She improved the world by being in it.
