Kander & Ebbs The Visit  Feb 22 2021, 05:01:50 PM

I saw this in Chicago  around 2000.  It is to this day the movst moving, eerie, beautiful thing i have ever seen on stage.  I've never been one for remembering music to something I've seen just once.  I had the songs stuck in my head for years, before I finally found the demo recordings.  What I saw on broadway was a bastardization of what I remember in Chicago.  It felt like all the heart was cut out of the show.  Lifeless.  At least most of th

Musicals that were announced but never materialised.  May 23 2020, 07:29:56 PM

Lloyd Webber announced The Master and Margarita before Stephen Ward if I remember correctly.  Wasn't Sondheim working on something before Road Show?

re: Books or movies that would make great musicals.  May 4 2020, 07:24:46 PM

I think Disney should dust off Mr. Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy.  Would make for a great family musical.  The stories (though obscure) have everything.  Special effects, comedy, unrequited love story, horror, and family appeal.  They could go any direction with it they they want. Plus if it went well, we could get a remake, and that makes my nostalgic heart happy. :)

This friday ALW will stream the Broadway version of BY JEEVES  May 4 2020, 07:16:42 PM

I think this is a show that really doesn't translate to a big stage.  Like Aspects, it's a quieter, and smaller.  I've never seen it live so I can't quite compare.  And hey, it's free, and you don't have to feel bad about "walking out" if it isn't your cup of tea.  Maybe just skip to the musical numbers :) Love's Maze, It's a PIg, and That Was Nearly Us are highlights. I'm thinking Andrew Lloyd Masterpiece or JCSS 2000 will

This friday ALW will stream the Broadway version of BY JEEVES  May 4 2020, 04:31:29 PM

FInally.  This is the one I've been waiting for, even though i've had the UK DVD for 15 years. I believe most of the London cast are in the video.  It really is worth a watch. Maybe not something to see in a big theater, but great on video. I wish had it more life in the regional circuit.  Donna Lynne Champlin (from Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Sweeney Todd Broadway) is a treasure.  I wish they would have used film for his filmed shows from the early 2000's instea

PHANTOM will be the next ALW musical to stream for free  Apr 14 2020, 05:19:04 PM

I'm eagerly awaiting By Jeeves, even though I have it on DVD. (had to hack my DVD player to play it, but have since copied it to my computer) It is a fun little show.  I'm surprised its never been released on BluRay or digitally in the US.  Donna Lynne Chaplain (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) is great in it.  Hopefully it'll be an HD version instead of upconverted DVD.

Annie Golden as Audrey in LSOH  Apr 10 2020, 08:45:37 PM

Unfortunately haven't found any videos of her in the role, but found some of her singing Somewhere That's Green and Suddenly Seymour.

Broadway Break Up Songs?  Feb 7 2020, 06:06:37 PM

Half of Chess.  That used to be my breakup album when I was younger.  Tell Me on a Sunday (Song & Dance) also has a bunch of breakup songs.  Hope you feel better soon.:)

Tell us your dream Broadway revival!  Sep 27 2019, 03:23:22 PM

Was just watching the clips of Alice Ripley in SB.  Thought she looked like Catherine O'Hara, and it popped in my head "I think Catherine would make an awesome Norma!" I know she mainly does comedy, but somehow think she could pull it off.

Saddest musical?  Jul 26 2019, 03:09:55 PM

Not a stage musical, but movie.  Dancer in the Dark with Bjork.  It's simply stunning. One of the best movie musicals I've ever seen. I've only been able to sit through it once, a few years ago.  Extremely sad.  I keep wanting to watch it again, but have to prepare myself. Lol.  I recommend it to everyone who loves musicals, but always with the disclaimer that it will depress the F*** out of you.

replacement cast samplers  May 16 2019, 05:18:50 PM

I'm just curious if there have been any replacement cast samplers lately for any shows.  The last one I remember was H2$ with Nick Jonas.  I wish they would do it more often.  I know it's cost prohibitive, but it still would be nice to have some alternative cast numbers.  Especially shows with high profile lead changes.  Would have been cool to have something with Betty Buckley in Hello Dolly or Laura Benanti in My Fair Lady.

Songs That Sound An Awful Lot Like Other Songs  Apr 4 2019, 04:19:55 PM

"Sparklejollytwinklejingley" from Elf the Musical and "The Revolutionary Costume For Today" from Grey Gardens pop in my head as well. "When a room is gloomy... " and "That's the Revolutionary Costume..."

Songs That Sound An Awful Lot Like Other Songs  Mar 21 2019, 05:40:47 PM

Every time I hear "We Do Not Belong Together" from SITPWG, I can't stop hearing "Chariots of Fire"

Andrew Lloyd Webber tribute on NBC  Mar 30 2018, 06:59:30 PM

I definitely recommend this bio from 1986. Less of a commercial, and more of a discussion of his works.  Too bad there's nothing like it about his later shows.  I treat is watching the footage from Cricket, which you'll hear melodies used in Aspects, Starlight, and Sunset. Love his response to plagerism.  Thinking he was talking about I Don't Know How to Love Him.

Aspects of Love  Apr 22 2017, 03:32:37 AM

kdogg36 said: "This may have been my website, which I believe was called Aspects of Love: Information and Analysis. Among other things, I had a page for each of the musical themes with a discussion of how they were used in the show. There was also an annotated libretto noting where each theme was used in the score.

If that's what you're talking about, I think - much to my chagrin - that I no longer have it. I stopped paying for the domain a while back, and I think the computer that had the files on it was fried.

With some difficulty, it looks like the pages can still be found on web archives, for instance:

Maybe it would be worthwhile for me to re-assemble some of this material into a website if anyone else is truly interested. :)

By Jeeves! I think that's it!  cheeky (had to do it.)  Thank you so much!  Can't wait to read through it again. After that i'll have to go through the tiretracks.co.uk site again. Ah memories. cheeky

Aspects of Love  Apr 21 2017, 05:51:47 PM

I have a question.  Back in 2000 or so I read a line by line breakdown of the show online.  It said which theme was used and why.  i.e Jenny first using Rose's Chason melody to lure Alex, then when she was getting desperate using his Love Changes Everything melody against him.  It was extremely thorough, and made me love the show even more.  Does anyone know if this is still floating around anywhere?  I'd love to re read it.  Say what you will a

What disney film would make a good musical  Feb 1 2017, 05:23:36 PM

Mr. Boogedy, and Bride of Boogedy.  Please someone make it happen. :)  Combined could be a pretty cool musical.

Candide and Sweeney Blu Ray  Nov 9 2016, 05:42:40 PM

Thank you so much for the reviews.  I looked last week on blu-ray.com and they didn't have them up yet.  Sad to see they also went with 2.0 sound on both.  The dvd's both have 5.1.  Guess I'll be sticking with those.

looks like the dvd of Sweeney is out of print now.  Thank goodness I already have it,

p.s.  it's not too hard to make an audio cd from a dvd.  Easily searchable on google and free software.  Just watch out for malware. (I believe handbrake does this)

Candide and Sweeney Blu Ray  Nov 8 2016, 05:40:05 PM

Hey, just a quick question.

Has anyone gotten the new blu rays of Candide and Sweeney with Patti Lupone?  Is the image and sound any better than the dvd's or is it the same quality as the DVD's?  I'm wondering if they are worth the repurchase. They still look kind of fuzzy to me on the youtube clips, with edging artifacts.

If You Won the Powerball and Could Mount a Production on Broadway...  Jan 13 2016, 02:57:29 PM

Okay, not a production, but a concept recording of JCSS. *yes another*

Jesus-Constantine Maroulis

Judas-Adam Lambert

Mary-Kelly Clarkson or Kelly Pickler

Herod- Clay Aiken

Pilate- Chris Daughtry

Didn't mean for it to be an American Idol thing. I started with one day thinking Constantine and Adam would be great in it, and kept rolling.
