Curious if anyone went to Philadelphia to see the recent premiere of Jsmes Ijames' newest play "Wilderness Generation?"
It will have a second run in November at Washington DC's Studio Theatre while I am on the East Coast. I'm thinking of changing my plans to spend a few days of my trip in DC again this year because the Wash. National Opera announced last week that during the same week they will put on "Nixon in China" with Renée Flem
Are you saying it won't stay tight after awards season? Is it not doing good enough at the box office to extend past September? Looking at weekly grosses it is surprising that Rocky Horror cracked $1million selling less seats, while this is doing ok at 91% of capacity. OR are you saying get tickets now while they're less expensive before they raise prices after a potential Tony win?

I read an article somewhere recently, maybe the Guardian (?), where the author was commenting on the dearth of comedy movies and they gave "There’s Something About Mary" as an example of a film that would never be made today.
Those photos just look like Rent without much set - so pretty much what any budget community production has looked like. Hardly ground breaking. The costumes make the characters look like that have more money than they would.
Watching that Tonight Show performance all I wondered about was if they are all in wigs? Is Ali Bourzgui in a wig, or does he have to do his hair like that for the show?
Thanks for posting that video this morning BrodyFosse.
Another Kander & Ebb show for Liza that I enjoy the cast album for is "The Act." I wonder if it could ever be done with someone else? I know from what I've read online about it that it didn't wholly work at the time as a show, even though it gave her another Tony.
If that's true they probably can just re-use most of Ragtime's (none) set. A few cardboard cutouts of waves along the front edge of the stage to suggest they're out on the water. Give me the Tony for scenic design now.
I would have been in my early 20's when the tour came through from the last revival, but I didn't care back then.
Feels like a hard sell in this economy. Not taking any artistic merits into consideration, looking at the grosses for new shows like Lost Boys & Schmigadoon - they seem to be having a hard time breaking out. Big shows that are just over a year old like DBH & BVSC seem to be treading water. I think something like NtN would do better at a non-profit. What's the rumor for what's next at Lincoln Center?
Haven't seen Rocky Horror, but it didn't seem to get much better reviews than Chess. Even here people complained about things. So wondering what moved the scales for it over Chess? Maybe more fun even if flawed?
Surprised Uranowitz was nominated in the Lead category. I would have thought they might have tried to get him in supporting so he wouldn't be competing against Henry.
