Whatever Happened to Singin In the Rain Musical? Dec 21

I saw this in London in 2012. Fantastic production but too much like the movie to be interesting in a live performance.

I was at today's matinee and it looked completely sold. The audience was very responsive, and the principals even teared up a little at the curtain call. This is my second viewing (saw it a month ago in previews) and while it has not changed, it seems much tighter and the ending feels totally earned to me. I appreciated it at my first viewing, and was (can't resist) swept away this time.If it were to stay open till year end, I would go back again.

I am a fan of this show but I have to admit that I was sorry to see it at the Longacre, one of my least favorite venues. I think Swept Away has a strong future in smaller houses regionally (like the Arena in DC where it sold out) and even off Broadway at some point. Getting closer physically to the four survivors would make the emotional impact greater. And I can't wait for the cast recording.

I am glad there will be one. I have the Avett Brothers albums but I thought the voices in the production are so [perfect for their songs.

SWEPT AWAY Broadway Reviews Nov 23

I am looking forward to seeing it a second time because the music was all new to me and not a genre I usually appreciate. Now that I know (and really like) the Avett Brothers, I want to pay more attention to the story itself. I loved it the first time.
And I am frankly stunned at reviews that say there isn't enough story there. For me, it was just like Billy Budd: men at sea for long periods form a kind of family, with all the love and hate and turmoil that involves. The book has i

SWEPT AWAY Broadway Reviews Nov 20

What this show does have is fans of the Avett Brothers, a group of people who may not go to Broadway all that often, if at all. When I attended, the audience skewed much younger than I have seen generally, even in shows where there was a star with an established fanbase, like Groban.

My bad if I was not clear. You cited JERSEY BOYS and BEAUTIFUL which are both very specific types of juke box musical because it is a musical about people who write the music being used in the musical. In the case of SWEPT AWAY, the Avett Brothers created an album years ago only a portion of which was inspired by the shipwreck story and John Logan got permission to look at the entire Avett catalogue for songs to incorporate. So it is not just using an established song set and writing around i

I know the definition of a juke box musical but was referring to the two examples you cited.
This show uses some of the Avett Brothers album inspired by an actual shipwreck but in fact most of the music is from elsewhere in their canon, so the score is not anchored (pun!) in that particular work. I did not research their work before hand, and in fact had only heard clips, but found it very accessible.

Sleep No More - what kind of shape is it in? Nov 12

People took off their masks? Did the audience start chasing them around, thinking they were dancers? Would have loved to see that -
I enjoyed the choreographed "Moonlight Becomes You" pas de deux but thought they should have used "Dancing in the Dark" instead.

Striving for something? So I guess you totally missed why the two brothers end up on a whaling ship?
And your references to Beautiful and Jersey Boys is oddly appropriate: this isn't a juke box musical. It is not the story of a singing group. Anyone who goes to see an Avett Brothers concert at this show needs to pay closer attention before buying a ticket.

I went the first time shortly after it opened, and I was intrigued by the uniqueness of an immersive experience. The physical settings are so detailed and varied, and occasionally the music has an other worldly quality. I thought it odd that so little of it was memorable.
I went back last weekend, and found the crowds to be amazingly pushy and inconsiderate of both the dancers and the other audience members. I had people shoulder their way in front of me during scenes and push by me on
