I am glad there will be one. I have the Avett Brothers albums but I thought the voices in the production are so [perfect for their songs.
SO happy to have this news! Can't wait to hear those voices again!! Someone had put together a playlist of the Avett Bros, in order, that will have to suffice for the next two months! (Or course, Lay Your Hand on My Shoulder isn't on it. [And I probably got the title wrong.]}

My wife is going to be so happy about this

It's been a year since I saw this show but the vibe seems quite different on the recording than it did on the show? I felt like in the show this felt like a bit more mocking? This almost comes across like the whole number is religious.

It was definitely sung a bit cynically when I saw it a couple weeks ago, but I guess that doesn't really come through on the recording.

I really am not liking this album (I mostly liked the show). This feels over produced and pop-y and the intimacy of the show has been washed out.
I'm not sure I agree with it having a "pop" feel - but yes to the rest of your sentiment. Really not enjoying it. Will give it a few listens though - we'll see.
I had a later than expected commute home last night and tried listening to this and I don't like it at all for the reasons already mentioned. Hoping for a better experience from the Dead Outlaw (where is this???) and Maybe Happy Ending cast recordings.
Never saw this live, but I quite liked this album upon my first listen. It strikes a comfortable sweet spot somewhere between THE LAST SHIP and GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY.
I thought the second half was the stronger part, with the more beautiful, introspective Avett moments (save for the punchy headbanger “Satan Pulls the Strings,” which John Gallagher Jr. absolutely devours).
There’s a bit of a bluegrassy sameness to the first half, as the crew gathers for their soon-to-be-doomed voyage. “Hard Worker” is this season’s “The Road Don’t Make You Young.”
Adrian Blake Enscoe is a brilliant discovery. His Little Brother, having left the girl of his dreams to set sail, delivers the show’s wistful title song (something of a mid-aughts “Brown Eyed Girl”) and one of my personal favorites on the record, “Murder in the City.”
I wasn’t too taken by Stark Sands once again, unfortunately.
For those who saw this live, how was the shipwreck sequence staged? How did the big ship turn into the lifeboat?
This didn’t quite sweep me away, but it’s a nice addition to the Broadway cast album collection.
I must admit I don’t have a great ear, but I just finished listening to the album and enjoyed it. It didn’t hit as well as I think a live recording would have.
The album will be available April 25 physically and on two different vinyls: a rough sea blue and a limited-edition "Devil's In My Head" blood red.

I quite enjoyed the album, and I did see the show live. The book was the worst part of the show.
The shipwreck was probably the best part of the show, the entire ship set tipped upstage and a lifeboat came up. The bottom of the ship set was mirrored so that you could see faces and such even if people were laying down in the lifeboat or faced upstage.

They'll be doing a concert on 4/28 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets have already sold out. Sounds like it'll be a Tony Voter reminder event.
