re: Poll: Who Really Cares if Lea Michele's in Wicked?

all the angry fans from the Phillipines who thought it was Lea Salonga

saw the OBC in LA last night

Logainne's rant was on the flyer with TB and Lindsay Lohan

crowd seemed to enjoy the bee, I don't view LA as much of a theater crowd. Some old people were leaving around 3/4 of it...maybe too long for them?

it sounds like Darlene Love
re: Shows You Thought Would Flop That Ended Up Being A Success

Lion King- I thought people wouldn't come thinking it was just a rehash of the movie or a glorified theme park show

The Producers- sort of the same, I also thought people would grow tired of Nathan Lane's schtick post-Birdcage

It's been made into movie but...

if you stay downtown, that knocks 2/3 since you can take the red line to Hollywood/Vine for Wicked

but Spelling Bee's going to be your tough one, there's an "express" bus 720 you can take from Wilshire Downtown all the way to the VA

"the Heat is On in Saigon"- Miss Saigon

but then again, personal taste dictates this will change at any given moment :)

re: passing strange reviews. any predictions?

I'm a huge fan of Stew's music, I hope it does well.

I'm more worried about the onstage stuff, as that is new to him.

re: Miss Saigon Revival

a) the show isn't that good

b) Lea's too old, and I think would be unwilling to do Kim (I think it's fine if it's someone else, but don't get your hopes up) just due to schedule and wanting to pu tit behind her

c)It hasn't been gone long enough to be missed

re: 2007 Tony Award Performances

Company- "Side by Side by Side."

Chorus Line- Medley

Les Miz- it would be a crime not to have Lea do "I Dreamed a Dream" just because One Day More's been done at the Tonys. I think they'll do "Bring Him Home/Do You Hear the People Sing" a la The View

SA doesn't beat GG or Curtains, mostly due to subject matter and it's relation to the voter base.

I think GG wins.

I think Celia may get a nom for Les Miz. But Les Miz is so hot and cold with people, who knows.

Can we do a straight up trade, Rosie for Lea?

It would make me TIVO the View every day

re: Is Wicked the New Cats?

Wicked is the new Les Miz, the musical tortured high school girls know by heart

"Thing about Wicked is if it ever starts to slump its kinda hard to stunt cast, because the 2 leads are pretty hard to sing"

there aren't many shows on Broadway like Wicked, a show that has two female leads with large meaty parts, which makes it very appealing, or at least tempting.

Lea Salonga was practically begging in her 2005 Carnegie Hall concert to be in Wicked. That alone would spike ticket sales for a good 6 months.

"Superstar" -Jesus Christ Superstar
"You Can't Win"- The Wiz

even though they technically don't count, the Blues Brothers and the Commitments :)

Anyone see Stew at Joe's Pub?
 Apr 19 2007, 10:58:10 AM
He of "Passing Strange" fame, which is taking over at the Public Theater in NY on May 1st

Wanted to know what NY'ers thought, since LA's had him for years

re: Gina Glocksen - 'Broadway, call me.'
 Apr 6 2007, 05:50:01 PM
I seem to recall Lea Salonga doing the same thing on her tour and Carnegie Hall concert, but it was a little more subtle

If a Tony winner didn't get the call I doubt they're going to give Gina a ring unless it's for TourCo

re: Tony Award Upsets?
 Apr 3 2007, 12:11:21 PM
I'm not sure if Will Rogers Follies beating Miss Saigon in 1991 was the upset, or if Lea Salonga beating Dee Hoty and Cathy Rigby was the upset.
