re: ST Official site is up and FULL of music

The orchastrations are AMAZING! Nice full sound.. Depp I believe will pull this off. However, I really don't like her voice at all. She can't sustain her notes, can't hit the higher notes fully, I'm really disappointed. With all the actresses out there (even "box office" names) they really should have cast someone who could sing better. I just hope her acting blows me away..

I agree with you Rentaholic2. She also "scoops" her notes a bit, which drives me crazy. As a MAJOR Sweeney Todd fan (saw the original cast 11 times and dozens of other productions since) I am looking forward to this, but a bit concerned about both their vocals throughout the film. Both are "underplaying" the roles, which is far different than what I am use to seeing on stage. We'll see. I'm still excited about it, though.

The thing that I remember about the original production was that I was amazed that as soon as the show ended, the audience gave them a standing ovation BEFORE curtain calls even started! I LOVED this show and have always wished there would be a full-blown revival. GREAT cast and the first show I ever saw Kevin Kline in, who was brilliant in this show! Let's hope for a revival one day..
re: Thoughts to Resolve the Stagehands Strike

My thought is that the Producers and Theatre Owners should negotiate each contract individually for each show prior to mounthing that production. Much like Young Frankenstein, Mary Popins, etc. Just make it part of mounting a show on Broadway. This way if the Producers and Stagehands can't reach an agreement in the beginning, the show never opens and no one looses any money (other than the stage hands who don't get any work because the show doesn't open)..

Next, as far as investors g

As I keep saying... A Union free Broadway is not far away... If this is what the Unions are going to keep doing, the producers will have no choice..

One step closer to a Union free Broadway.....

fengshuihellnyc, I agree with you... I have several friends who are currently performing on Broadway. Funny, not one of them has a nice thing to say about the Stagehands or their Union. Yes, Equity is "supporting" them on the outside. They have to, basically. But, behind the scenes they are not. From what my friends are telling me, most actors are not. Marc Shaiman didn't have a nice thing to say about them in the Sunday Star Ledger.

I'm glad the producers are standing their grou

Mack and Mabel by far. Most people know it as the Overture on the recording. However, the show had no overture, what you are really hearing is the opening to act 2... Great!

re: Questions for Locane members

I am not collecting on the Equity pension nor will I. I am retired from theatre, not retire all-together... I have found another profession I enjoy and am making a living at. I do, however, continue my association with theatre working locally throughout NJ, NY and PA. Small groups, community theatre, etc. Funny, I recently did a really good community theatre production where out of a cast of 22, 6 were Equity. It happens all the time and Equity, instead of wasting energy "hunting these peo

And, as an actor, I wanted Union work. I looked for Union work. However, if there is no Union work to be found or available, I have the right to find work someplace else. I am an actor. I trained as an actor, went to school for acting and have worked nearly 30 years as an actor. Why should I find work doing something else when I can work at what I was trained to do even if it was non-union?

The point is that I did the non-union gig (along with 8 other Equity people out of a cast of

I'm liberal (not as much as I use to because as I get older I see things with a clear picture) but I don't agree with the Unions. I don't hate them, I just believe that their rules and demands are archaic and need to change with the world

FYI: I retired 5 years AFTER that situation, which I won because NJ is a "right to work" state and they could not legally stop me from finding work and making a living. I also did Union work after that as well. I retired because I no longer wanted to tour, be away from home, etc.

Not the answer you were looking for, I'm sure...

PS- why can other theatrical union workers work non-union gigs? IATSI...

FYI- My email to the League today:

As a retired theatre professional and past Union member I want to write this email in support of your efforts.

For a long time I believed that many of the unions were getting “too full of themselves” with their ridiculous rules and demands. I am also a firm believer that the unions are slowly killing Broadway. It is hugely due to their archaic rules that the costs of mounting a production (especially a musical) on Broadway is so exorbitant.

Quick story… Ok, maybe not quick, but here it goes.

As an Equity member several years ago, I did several Equity shows, tours, etc. However, there’s not always Equity work available (more and more theatres each year are dropping out of the Unions due to their high demands, costs, etc. meaning less Equity houses/work). So, not being able to find Equity work for a period of time I chose to do non-union acting gigs (Ooohhhh). Hey, I had to pay my bills, rent and eat..

So, this

"Then that show either has to go non-union"..

Frankly, that's the best solution all-around. The Unions have gotten way too full of themselves.

First off... Regarding lighting rigs over the stage.. Most of the theatres I have worked in over the years the lighting rigs were on electric winches (due to their extreme weight). They never required a "specialist" to push the button and lower or raise them. This maybe different from theatre to theatre, but pretty consistent in the ones I worked in.

Next, on another thread someone FINALLY had the best solution to the problem. That each and every show should negotiate their own con

Finally, someone has the best answer to the whole situation! Thank you Boq101.. Each and every show should sit down and negotiate their own individual contract based on the REAL needs of the show. NOT what the unions dictate as their broad, across the boards rules. Obviuously other shows have already done that as they are exempt from this strike.

Their job is to be up on a role, stand in the wings and be ready to go on each day at a moments notice...

But, you believe that a flyman sitting backstage of a show that has no flys (thus he will NEVER do anything ever) should get paid to sit there and do nothing?? C'mon....
