Mexodus News?

Considering how past music-focused shows have successfully performed at the Daryl Roth --- whether the non-traditional De La Guarda and Fuerza Bruta --- to Sandra Bernhard's concert residency and even In and of Itself where music played a subtle but important role --- I think it's a fine choice for any show where sound/acoustics are a major element.

And depending on the stage configuration, if it catches on and moves 300-

Just in Time - Matt Morrison?
 Jan 12 2026, 06:19:59 PM

It also appears they last day available for group sales is March 15th, which I believe is a significant rollback (and usually a sign that a show is wrapping up.)

Regardless - a fantastic run and proof that Groff is a box office draw in the right show.

Curious if anything will jump into Circle last minute to close out the season....

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/16/25
 Nov 18 2025, 03:51:21 PM

Also surprised at the Cursed Child surge.

And very impressed that Oedipus did $850k in a week with press comps / opening. Well done!

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2/25
 Nov 4 2025, 02:29:01 PM

Agreed -- Halloween, especially falling on a Friday and rolling into the weekend, certainly would have an impact.

Oedipus quite strong out of the gate, just shy of $500k for 4 performances.

Love the momentum continuing for Chess and Ragtime.

And ouch, Rob Lake and The (?) Muppets.......going this weekend, and I don't wish failure on anyone but a $31k take per show for a 7 performance week seems like a disast

2025-2026 Broadway Season
 Nov 3 2025, 02:10:35 PM

Would *love* to see a MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO transfer, but that's mostly superfan speak on my part ---- the economics of putting it up here would be daunting / marketing might be a challenge stateside.

Even in a play-heavy season, MUCH ADO would be a treat of a transfer.

Or perhaps the Cranston/Jean-Baptiste ALL MY SONS?

From Chicago to NYC: Steppenwolf's Broadway Boom
 Nov 1 2025, 11:42:35 AM

Very nice piece --- I believe Steppenwolf quite deservedly won the Regional Theatre Tony Award awhile back, but for a non-profit to persevere throughout the past decades *and* consistently present great work, they should very much be celebrated.

Well done, BWW Editorial. This round-up reminded me of many of my favorite shows that got their start at Steppenwolf:

(Still shaken by the original production of "Bug", btw / eagerly awaiting the new production at MTC in a few weeks....)

Will Swenson and Lesli Margherita to Star in SWEENEY TODD Directed by Jason Alexander
 Oct 31 2025, 03:09:53 PM

Yes, please - Swenson should be brilliant and *very* excited about Lesli taking on Mrs. Lovett:

Little Shop...Who Leads? Anyone know?
 Oct 30 2025, 01:40:49 PM

Agree 1,000%. Durand is inspired and truly, they've been consistently knocking it out of the park. Def due for another trip to Skid Row soon!

Michaela Diamond, Andrew Durand, David Hyde Pierce, Jasmine Amy Rogers & more to star in OKLAHOMA! concert at Carnegie Hall
 Oct 29 2025, 06:28:09 PM

Wow, what a cast. Presuming that Durand will be Jud, Jasmine will be Ado Annie and Ana will be Aunt Eller? Could be a treat!

Potential CHESS Replacements
 Oct 23 2025, 07:19:31 PM

100% on board with Lena Hall as Florence + would go bankrupt hearing Rebecca Jones sing the role, too.

Other fun dream casting:

Anatoly: Leslie Odom Jr.

Freddie: Drew Sarich, Tony Vincent, Lena Hall here too (honestly, she'd rip 'Pity the Child')

Arbiter: Daniel Breaker, Wayne Brady, Christian Borle, Stephen Colbert

If CHESS can keep that momentum up, it sure will. Very impressed and excited it's so strong out of the gate - hopefully they keep fine tuning during previews and word of mouth just gets better.

And while I imagine the new 1-part production of CURSED CHILD isn't losing money at $1 million a week (and I read they recouped a bit ago), it does remind me of the rumor that ATG had the Lyric in mind for EVITA. Certainly 43rd Street would theoretically be a bit more manageable crowd co

Little Bear Ridge Road just popped back up for this weekend's performances.

AMADEUS - Broadway Bound?
 Oct 8 2025, 12:02:03 PM

One of my most favorite plays. And I believe the last production was the David Suchet/Michael Sheen revival? So we're certainly due for a new production.

I wasn't aware of the Steppenwolf production, though they've been on a roll lately + with Robert Falls at the helm, I'm very intrigued and may need to find my way to Chicago in November...

(Also I *love* the idea of Cole as Mozart and showing off their acting chops in something so different....)

25/26 plays what are we excited about?
 Oct 7 2025, 01:30:13 PM

Ah yes! Little Bear totally slipped my mind, and I forgot it starts this week. (I caught one of the very few performances of Metcalf's Martha in Virginia Woolf before the COVID shutdown, and she was incredible esp for such an early performance. I hope she'll revisit the role one day....!)

Oedipus is also very high on my list --- Mark Strong & Lesley Manville are two of my favorite actors, and I'm a big fan of Robert Icke -- even when he misses, he often takes big swings (his production of The Orestia at the Armory was incredible.)

I recall going into the original NY production of Bug knowing nothing other than it was supposed to be great and was on the edge of my seat --- and Carrie Coon finally back on Broadwa

British transfers: money makers or myth?
 Oct 5 2025, 04:18:45 PM

Agree with many sentiments here --- I haven't been to London since pre-COVID (a 2026 resolution I've already made to fix) --- but back when I was in college, I spent a semester abroad and did a Senior Thesis on about a half-dozen plays and how they addressed contemporary themes. I was able to afford decent-to-very-good seats to all on a college student budget (in no small part to the many day-seats / student tickets deals that I believe still exist....needless to say I'm well past the glory days of being eligible for student rates.... :)

But to the bigger issue --- the general info I've followed is that West End productions are vastly less expensive to capitalize than Broadway / profitability is far more achievable. The producer Sonia Friedman has been an active advocate, often voicing with disappointment how many of her well-regarded West End shows she'd love to bring through were the economics not so daunting - and even so, she's continued to bring over many works, some of them my most favorite (lookin' at you, The Ferryman / eagerly anticipate the Robert Icke Oedipus in a few weeks):

There's a lengthy and well done profile of her this spring from the NYT (gift link below) where she talks about it a bit that's worth a read:

Discount code for Viola's Room
 Oct 2 2025, 05:41:54 PM

I don't believe there are any --- each reservation is for such a small number of people + they keep staggering the ticket releases like "Sleep No More" did, so demand is likely still strong.

But I'm going by Hudson Yards this weekend and will ask the box office / report back. At minimum, they do seem to release tickets close-in as most shows do, it's just a bit of a chance. Will write back to y'all.
