The very first Broadway show I ever saw was Angela Lansbury's "Gypsy." She was magnificent. She played it with a sense of fun, similar to the way Patti LuPone is playing it. Tyne Daly sometimes performed the role wonderfully - I never thought anyone would top her performance until Patti - but once when I saw it, Tyne went on with laryngitis, which was taking the concept of "the show must go on a tiny bit too far," and her voice would give out during the numbers! Thanks for posting the pictures - I tried but couldn't post the pictures or the link. Does anyone know the name of the woman Rose allegedly murdered? Or more details? I've heard a lot of the details of the whole mess, but not the name of the victim.

Thanks. What's on these boards is kind of like the lottery: "Hey, ya never know!" Is there a release date set?

Will it REALLY be recorded by Timelife, and contain the six cut songs? That would be so cool...if that post was real.

Does anyone out there agree that "A Confederacy of Dunces" would be AWESOME material for a musical comedy? I'd vote for Nathan Lane as Ignatius.

The Real Gypsy, June and Rose Mar 6

I just tried to add a link to photos of the real Gypsy, June and Rose Hovick. That didn't work on this board, but the photos can be found by going on www.wikipedia.org and putting "Rose Thomspon Hovick" in the search box. Perhaps the wig Patti LuPone is wearing in the show is based on Rose's (godawful, in my opinion) hairstyle in this and other photos I've seen of Rose. It looks infinitely better on Patti.

Does anyone know what the plans are regarding the release of the Patti LuPone "Gypsy" CD?
