What ever happened to Alice Ripley Aug 17
2025, 12:16:43 PM
I remember her stating at the time that Sheik/Producers promised a new solo song for Patrick's Mother in the AP 2016 transfer but it never materialized. It was still great to see her in the show and I could listen to her rendition of Nice Thought with Jennifer Damiano @ 54 Below every day for the rest of my life.

Cabaret Casting Rumor: Orville Peck & Eva Noblezada Apr 9

Kad said: "I still can't forgive this production its flaws- those flaws remain- but it feels rejuvenated and closer to what it needs to be than it ever did before."
This x1000. I felt like I finally saw "the vision" tonight — a whole year later — and that's thanks to Eva and Orville. Forgive the hyperbole, but Peck would've been a serious Tony contender to beat if he opened the show in 24.

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film Dec 11
2024, 01:44:56 PM
Official wording from the Sundance site:
"Valentín, a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna.
No stranger to the Festival (Gods and Monsters, 1998 Sundance Film Festival) or the megaplex (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga, Beauty and the Beast), director Bill Condon returns with a stellar, reimagined interpretation of Kiss of the Spider Woman (previously a 1985 film and 1993 Chita Rivera–helmed, Tony-sweeping musical). Set amid Argentina’s Dirty War of the 1980s, Condon marries a textually rich historical and political drama with the flashy technicolor extravagance of an old Hollywood musical.
Jennifer Lopez is an astonishing scene-stealer in a career-highlight performance as Luna/Aurora, with showstopping musical numbers that underscore the exuberant prowess of her dancing and voice. Diego Luna delivers unrelenting revolutionary conviction as Valentín, and Tonatiuh gives his Molina a tenderhearted power and theatrical flair.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is a grounded yet sumptuous spectacle, a masterfully vivacious cinematic experience for our modern times.—Cameron Asharian"

OUR TOWN Previews Sep 18
2024, 11:44:42 AM
Was at the first preview last night. Show ran pretty smoothly and at a quick pace. Begins with cast members coming through the audience all whispering the same prayer in different languages. Some in modern dress, others in period clothing. It's been awhile since I've read the text (lacking true familiarity) but it felt like there were clear excisions, and I would be interested to know what was cut/why. They provided a hardcopy of the play for all of us as a first preview gif

Pre-Broadway sell outs that flopped on Broadway Nov 12
2023, 03:05:10 PM
Des McAnuff's Jesus Christ Superstar played/extended to sold out shows at the Stratford Festival/had acclaim at La Jolla but definitely didn't translate on Broadway — save for Josh Young's performance, eventual Tony nom.

SLEEP NO MORE to close in January after 5000 performances Nov 8
2023, 06:07:07 PM
There's a bit of smoke and mirrors happening. SNM is closing, but I've heard through a few members of the company that a new immersive show from Punchdrunk, etc, will be taking over sometime in 2024. It's said to be in the same Hitchcockian vein/already being cast and workshopped.
With that being said, SNM was a true institution, and it will be really missed. So happy I got to check out the Halloween show last week. I'll never forget seeing the prophecy scene for th

Medea at BAM Jan 20

JBroadway said: "I happened to be passing by the theatre again today (just got out of Timon of Athens at TFANA)
There was a sign on the door saying that today’s performance of Medea was cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Anyone know what happened?"
Could be because Bobby Cannavale was in LA for the SAG Awards.

The Mother (The Atlantic Theater Company) - Previews Feb 25
2019, 02:10:54 PM
I was at the second preview and the show was running pretty damn smoothly. Isabelle's accent is a bit thick but I can only imagine her getting better with the language of the play as the run continues. I thought the acting was great across the board. A moody, abstract, and incredibly haunting play. I haven't seen The Father but I was thoroughly engrossed with the staging and the story of this one. It's for sure a disorienting experience, as it is not based in any form of

I was there for the matinee this past Wednesday and found the production to be in top shape but the performances lacking in any dimension (besides Cranston). As much as it pains me to to say this, I found Maslany to be terribly miscast. Some of her Diana was working but I don't think she has the right force power to drive home that character. For those wondering, I was also in the second to last row of the balcony and found the seats to be great. Only annoyance is when people bend fo
