INDOOR/OUTDOOR AT SPF!
 Jul 16 2005, 11:10:42 PM
i saw this HILARIOUS play tonight at the summer play festival. it's by kenny finkle, and it's about a house cat. that's all i'll say. oh, i'll also say that it features four SENSATIONAL performances, including a lead performance by a woman whose name is escaping me (the program is across the room and i'm too tired to go get it). she is beyond adorable, funny and moving. i'm pretty sure it ends tomorrow. GO SEE IT!! it's the best thing i've seen at spf yet -- this year or last. (great use of 80s/

Did Jason Zinoman (a critic I normally admire) really write "sike" instead of "psych" in the third sentence? Did an editor at the Paper of Record not catch this? Shocking.
Anyone see the 24 Hour Plays?

I was there the night Sandra Bernhard and her girlfriend were there, too! I remember she was the first to leap to her feet at the end for a standing ovation. (I later heard that the producers were wooing her to do it in NYC, but they never ended up producing it here, obviously.)

I saw it in London too. It was a weird show, mostly because of the book (which was written by the guy who wrote "Beautiful Thing," if I'm not mistaken). I agree with the other person here who saw it -- thinly drawn characters, all-over-the-place book and I remember that it was ultimately about a guy coming out, which is SO been there, done that at this point. But the music was fun (if a bit repetitive) and it was performed in an intimate theatre, which helped the "club" mood work well.

Yep, it starts at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco in the fall. In October, I think. Looking forward to it.

Did anyone see this play in the SPF festival? Any thoughts? (I'm not a shill, I'm just curious.)

it was a totally fun day. i hope lots of those adorable dogs got adopted. my favorite part was julie halston (jokingly) saying to the crowd, "has everyone seen bernadette peters? she looks HORRIBLE!"
