Residuals on OBCRs?
 Jul 9 2025, 11:16:04 PM

The streaming era has decimated the music industry and most artists do not make money from their music, but from touring. It used to be an artist made 80% of their revenue from album sales and 20% from touring, now it’s pretty much the opposite. Cast recordings, like musicals, are often money losing ventures. The albums benefit licensing more than anything. I think Hamilton, Six, and Wicked are the most recent mega albums and even then only Hamilton really behaved like a mainstream albu

Anyone seeing Montego as Rose?

I am going tonight. Rush is only $25. Went pretty late so my seat is partial view, but I am looking forward to revisiting the production.

She sounded wonderful! I think Hello, Dolly! is perfect as is so it felt like an added I want song that isn’t as good as the Oak Leaf Monologue/Before the Parade Passes By. And from their description of the Ethel Merman songs it seems like th

I don’t know how a show selling 68% of the theater and heavily comping nearly the entire run could be seen as not doing “that bad.” I love the cast and hope to go to closing but this show had a pre

SMASH Original Broadway Cast Recording Thread

I’ve skipped around the album but am enjoying it so far. Bella Coppola sounds fantastic, such a rich voice. The dialogue is there in The 20th Century Mambo and Don’t Forget Me. This has to do with the Karen/Ivy switch offs not just the scene changes like in the show. It’s only 45 minutes which seems short for the show. Also the Second Hand White Baby Grand Reprise has cut dialogue at the beginning.

I think their story would make a fascinating bio-musical too, but am excited for their music on stage in any capacity.

Chances of Timothee Chalamet in Hamlet dir by Jamie Lloyd

I would also like to see Timmy do a new play. He was supposed to do 4000 Miles in London in Summer 2020, so that makes me believe he would do a new work in the future. I wouldn't mind seeing him do Shakespeare, but would honestly prefer it in the park and not repeat what Othello is doing.

Sherie Rene Scott in AIDA
 May 10 2025, 10:27:17 PM

I'm trying to find out what category Sherie ended up being eligible for, but according to a NYPost article, Disney wanted her in featured, and nobody was above the title. From April 2000, "Meanwhile, Disney is asking that Sherie Rene Scott, one of the stars of “Aida,” be put up in the Featured Actress in a Musical category. The reason is simple: Heather Headley, another “Aida” star, has a lock on the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical."

I want to say the 7:30 showing was over at 8:57? Could be conflating it with another performance, though.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/28/23

Summer, 1976 is doing a lot better than most MTC shows. The best weeks they’ve seen since The Little Foxes if I’m not mistaken.

Will Almedia Streetcar Transfer to Broadway?
 May 4 2023, 12:00:33 AM

All of my friends (21-28 ish) have seen Normal People and love Mescal… I don’t think any of them know what Killing Eve or who Jodie is. Not that the audiences would be the same but I think Paul would sell very well in New York.

Aside from the nice words about Carolee & Grace, perhaps the kindest thing about his review is that he didn't talk about Linedy's performance. The singular quote about her: "a series of effortful numbersGenao sings bravely"

Patti LuPone said something like, it’s worse to be ignored than to be trashed.

Michael R. Jackson's new musical 'White Girl in Danger' to premiere Off-Broadway in March 2023
 Mar 15 2023, 11:22:47 PM

Like the posters above said it was LONG. During the first act I kept expecting the last few songs to be the act one finale. I agree with the poster who said it shines when it leans into the camp/soap opera aspects. The show has strong Heathers vibes. Audience seemed to enjoy it… some A LOT. Music was fine, one of the early songs has a very similar melody to “Exile in Gayville.” Probably need to cut an hour+ of material… would be better as a tight one act, but what wo

Jesse Green On 2022's Broadway Cast Albums
 Jan 25 2023, 11:00:02 PM

I feel that a lot of newer cast recordings sound too produced or the mix is off. It could just be a streaming issue since the audio quality on Spotify is miles behind Tidal or Apple Music, or a CD/vinyl, but unfortunately A Strange Loop sounds a little off to me. Still listen frequently but it’s frustrating. The Kimberly Akimbo album sounds beautiful so far and the Into the Woods album is great too. I wish the Tonys would add a category for cast reco
