'GIANT' first preview Nov 6
2012, 12:03:09 PM
I saw last night’s preview (which was delayed by an hour because of technical difficulties, which they later explained had to do with the set’s turntable). The show is slow — it’s not a fast-moving, swift night at the theatre. It’s definitely not OKLAHOMA, if you thought it was going to be. Not that it should be, of course, but there were a number of lulls when the show really could have benefitted from a high-energy number. (Miguel Cervantes sings the show’s only memorable number, “Jum

The Other Josh Cohen Oct 14

I caught the third (I think) preview of it on Friday night and loved it. Kate Wetherhead is a total riot here, and David Rossmer/Steve Rosen are so easily lovable onstage. (Also, where the hell did Hannah Elless come from and why do I not know who she is? That voice+look combo... whew!) There were a few jokes/songs that I hope may be cut during previews, since they didn't land, but overall I would give it a solid B+ for pure entertainment. It's really hard not to find yourself giggling

is BRING IT ON worth seeing? Oct 10
2012, 01:40:11 PM
Yes, if you're under 25. EDIT: I didn't mean this negatively. I think the show is tons of fun. But I haven't met a single under-25-year-old who hasn't loved it.

As a non-pianist, this is a fascinating thread.

I went to the Saturday evening show, and got my ticket (4th row orch, on the side) at around noon. The box office was a ghost town.

GRACE: Preview Thread Sep 15
2012, 11:55:55 PM
I caught tonight's (Saturday evening) performance of the show. I suppose there will be mild spoilers here! - At first it feels like Paul Rudd is playing a character identical to his usual personality — affable, a little goofy, with some awkward humor — but I was surprised to see him/the character go much deeper (although, being honest, I was hoping for a little more). I thought he did a very nice job, and by the play's end, I was almost sold. He gave a fine performance, nothing

35mm Recording Aug 14

@westcoast, the recording's iTunes data reads "35 MM Original Broadway Cast" under Artist, but "Original Cast Recording" under Album by Artist/Year. That aside, I'm loving "The Ballad of Sara Berry." Wowza. How did I miss this show!?

The Public Theatre's Shakespeare/Park presents INTO THE WOODS -- Discussion Aug 9
2012, 10:34:08 AM
Caught last night's final preview performance before tonight's opening. Some quick thoughts: - Gorgeous set. Very clever and visually stunning. Loved the beanstalk. - Amy Adams can sing most of the notes beautifully (not so much the higher ones), but she lacks almost all comedic timing. Maybe I'm just spoiled by having watched Joanna Gleeson so many times, but I would guesstimate that more than half of the jokes I expected to get huge laughs just didn't land

How Is Max von Essen Doing As Jul 6
2012, 07:49:31 PM
I saw Max perform last night and thought he was fantastic. The best part of the show, easily. Granted, it also marked my first time seeing 'Evita,' so I can't compare him with Ricky Martin, but I can say that Max had charm, swagger, a killer voice and could act the part, to boot. Shame I didn't get to see Christina. After last night I have no interest in seeing Elena Roger on Broadway ever again.
