Thank you for your extensive answer!
I don't live in the US, so I'm not sure when and if there will be a next visit. I haven't seen most shows that have been running for ages, so I just try to make a selection of shows that I think I'll enjoy. Great Comet is on the list, as is Amelie (but that opens after our visit).

I’ll be visiting NYC for a week in the beginning of March and I would like to see at least one or two Broadway Musicals. I’ve been reading up on lotteries and rush tickets and was hoping someone could help me figure a couple of things out.
Do I need to buy tickets to Chicago in advance, or are my chances with rush tickets pretty good? Do I really need to be there before 10, or are there often still tickets left later in the day?
Can anyone tell me more about
