The reviews for this show were WAY, WAY over the top. It's so-so at best. Hardly ready for prime time. And I wasn't the only one who was puzzled by its critical reaction on the night I saw it.
Go see it. It's quite good and, sometimes, it's terrific. A couple of parts could have been better cast, but it's a play by a wonderful writer that you will probably never seen again (although I hope I'm wrong about that).
God, was that choreography for the Harris production number suppose to be taken seriously. It was a spoof of bad b'way choreography, right? And in that case, taking it for Ashford makes total sense.
Too too busy. The eye is not directed to anything in particular. Why two rotating story headlines at the top of the page. I feel like it's a slot machine. Everything is rolling at once. Ugh.
How do those pictures give hints to 1) Honeymoon in Vegas 2) Oliver! 3) The Other Josh Cohen (A New Musical) 4) South Pacific 5) Grease I don't get it?
Finally, they are doing something original. Hmmm... Doesn't the Paper MIll get money specifically to foster new work? If so, they have been extorting dough from the government for the past three decades!
