That makes me EXTREMELY happy. I've never been able to wrap my head around that moment, it felt so out of character in a variety of ways.

I guess they didn't want to have to pay John Williams for every performance."
I also think it's not a sequel to the movies. They didn't want to draw that connection.

"I'd love to read about any more changes people have noticed between London and Broadway."
I can't get the spoiler function to work, so I won't list all the changes I noticed here, but I've detailed them in some tumblr posts for anyone interested:
Part 1
Dialogue changes
Part 2

I saw it over twenty times in London and I love the writing. The writing, the story, and the ideas the story expresses are what make me love the show. That and some of the performances. The spectacle is great, but it's not enough to make me want to come back over and over again.
Seeing the original cast again this past Thursday and Friday brought it all back for me. The trio embody Harry, Ron and Hermione so perfectly, especially Jamie Parker. Watching him is like watching Ha

The other powerfulmoment for me was Delphi. Her character doesn't really get revealed until the end and I was really touched by what Harry said to her.

Do you always have that reaction when people don’t agree with you opinions word for word? I’m not a plant, hon. I’m an obsessive fan. I wish I got paid for this, but I only do it for love.

Anthony's Northern Irish so his natural accent wouldn't have workedeither. That being said, he had described why he picked that way of speaking in this article:
It has stood him in good stead for Scorpius, whose pinched, higher-pitched tones are the result of some careful research. “I played about with the voice a lot. I remember seeing this very posh English boy on the Tube with his mother. I was fascinated, so I moved and sat near him so I could listen. And I watched documentaries about young boys at Eton and other posh, private schools, and became familiar with that tone, the resonance, the way they inflect.”
I've seen two others on forScorpius and they don't do the same type of accent... I prefer Anthony's take.
And although he has comic moments (as a foil to Albus' seriousness), I wouldn't say he becomes a comic sidekick, especially in the library scene and the first part of Part 2."
Anthony is amazing. He brings so much depth and complexity to the role. He absolutely deserved his Olivier.

I love how we all have our own personal opinions and no one fan speaks for everyone. It’s great. I personally love the big plot twist and the character it revolves around, especially how it illuminates Harry’s journey in the play. And I have so many friends who feel the same. Then there are those who feel otherwise. I love that there’s so much diversity of thought and opinion and that we don’t all agree about any one aspect. FYI- There are fan made compilation soundtracks on Spo

I'm not sure what the standards are for Tonys, but it had eleven Olivier nominations and an at the time record nine Olivier awards in London. Best script, Best Actor, Best supporting actor... It will be interesting to see if it's different in the US.

Well, no. I didn't say anything remotely like that. The play is great regardless, but there's no play that won't be lesser for poor actors. I've seen the play a lot. There's a whole community of people i

I was lucky enough to see the London production a number of times and I agree that the second cast doesn't hold a candle to the original. They seemed to put enormous effort into getting the first cast right and minimal into the second cast. I saw their first performance and it was embarrassing. A couple of the main cast members were not up to the job at all. One of them has improved a lot, although I don't think he could ever truly embody the character. But the other is still very sti

I don't know why my spoiler boxes always end up blank.
Re the romantic pairing that didn't happen:
The point of that relationship was that they love each other. The nature of that love wasn't important. There was no indication that it was or wasn't romantic. Friendship is often deeper and more powerful than romance. The fact that it wasn't romantic/sexual doesn't make it any less powerful. I guess if you read a lot of fanfiction and view the play as fanfi

I'm with you, I love the script on its own. I think the writing is very strong. I've seen the play a number of times in London and am going to see the Broadway version next week. It's not a play with complex dialogue, but it carries on the themes from the books beautifully and develops them further.
I disagree vehemently that it doesn't explore any themes or ideas. It's about legacy, the cycle of abuse, guilt and recovery. It's about coming to terms with the pas
