I wrote to Sondheim once and got his famous typed letter in response, complete with signature. Not in person, but I’m not in doubt of its authenticity. He even included a brand new signed Follies CD! I cherish it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think autopen counts as legally valid so long as the named person authorizes it. Isn't that how POTUSes do it?

Agreed. I don't doubt Gaga's genuine respect for elder legacy artists. Her work with Tony Bennett is surely testament to that.
