Can Americans "Do" Noel Coward?

Isn't the world of Noël Coward as alien to modern-day Brits as it is to Americans?

NYT: $100 Million Plan to Make Studio 54 a First-Class Theater
 Apr 14 2026, 09:22:48 AM

It's already a first-class theater.

The history, the atmosphere etc. make it extra special.

So it's not perfect, but it has a certain magic that corporate gloss can never compete with. Hopefully that will not be lost.

It is wild to me that Lithgow is 80. I mean, intellectually, yes, I know that's true, but it just doesn't feel true.

That's six years older than Roald Dahl himself ever was!

The Unknown - Off Broadway Review
 Mar 26 2026, 05:55:07 PM

I like Sean Hayes enough to pay $200 to see a 75-minute Off Broadway show, and I wasn't disappointed. He got me good, I was captivated. Okay, so I’m still not sure exactly how it all fit together in the end… I saw so many shows close together I can't process… but I was satisfied.

I like the small directorial touches like the song at the beginning travelling the speakers around the room and finishing up as if onstage, the bright lighting bl

Aw, thanks Joe.

I’m still having a fab time in NY… saw Ragtime last night, John Cameron Mitchell in Oh Mary on Friday evening followed by a jazz set at the Village Vanguard, with other things planned to bring me joy and lift my spirits. It’s definitely a downer, but I know it's a first world problem!

Commiserations to my fellow disappointees.

One day it’s kicks, then it’s kicks in the shins… but the planet spins, and the

☹️

Just as I arrived in New York. Just as I let myself believe it was gonna happen.

It’s okay. I knew it might. I'll cope. I’m still gonna make the most of my time here and see shows I might otherwise have missed.

I still love Liza.

Oh, right, thank you. I think I knew that. I'm starting to believe it's actually gonna happen. I'm leaving for the Big Apple tomorrow… it better! 😀

When will we know more about the event at the Streicker Center? It seems to be sold out, but at which venue? What does "reserved seating" mean, is it a guaranteed decent seat? Should I get there early for a good one?

Edit… oh wait, the reserved access area is sold out, but "few remaining tickets" left for general admission

I like to think these events will spark some joy for her, let her know she is still valued, and perhaps make her feel like she’s in her prime again. If only for a moment.

I do have a ticket for next Monday though, so it suits me to not feel complicit. I really hope Feinstein does care enough about Liza to not put her in harm’s way. ☹️

Binau, you have a very high opinion of your own critical thinking skills and write everybody else off en masse. Of course that is bound to cause friction. You can sound extremely patronizing. You make broad assumptions about where "we" get our news. I suggest you may be very wrong. I for one value true independent journalism. It still exists.

I know language evolves, but what does "troll" mean now?

Anyone who has a different opinion to Highland Guy is labelled a troll.

I believe binau to genuinely hold these views, as much as they may irk. By the standard definition of “troll" (as I know it), I would not class him in that category.
