re: Famous Standbys-Understudies, etc. Aug 1, 2011 — 10:42:34 PM Thelma Carpenter, who stood by for Pearl Bailey in "Hello, Dolly!", also eventually took over all of the matinee performances with "billing" in the ABC ads, so technically she ranks among Broadway's official "Dolly's".
