Halle completely makes the song her own, she really ACTS it and a lot of her acting choices compliment the riff at the end. There’s one particular part she belts that isn’t usually belted and it’s STUNNING.

Personally, I’m glad she’s done something different and quite unique. She’s going to be a stunning Ariel, one

I am a vocalist but I can riff, I just think it’s out of place where she put it. My reasoning is more along the lines of me being a massive Disney fan who just loves this song. I don’t mind riffs when they fit, I just don’t like this choice she made and that’s my prerogative - like some of you said, it’s not that deep, I just have an opinion. There’s a video on YouTube of Ashman directing Jodi Benson for this, and he’s very adamant that he doesn’t want the song to be too “sing-y”, specifically directing her not to sound like she’s singing to a huge audience but to keep the song very intimate. It’s an interesting watch: https://youtu.be/AWTJkyLWgrk

If you want to make it your "own," make it your own by carefully considering your acting choices and channeling them in your singing instead of distrusting the material. It doesn't feel modern. It feels amateurish."

It sounds completely int

I watched the trailer and I am really not a fan of the pop-style run she decided to do at the end, it took away all of the emotion for me. I feel the same way about Ariana in Wicked - I wish they’d stop casting pop stars in musical theatre roles. Will probably skip this one.

Full cast was in for anyone tracking, and since I last saw the show 7/9 everyone’s characters feel more lived in in a really great way. My first time seeing BDJ and I thought he was just spectacular. It also made me appreciate Jason Forbach’s Baker too, so different but both equally wonderful."

Totally agree about everyone’s characters feeling more lived in!

COMPANY To Close On July 31, 2022

Anyone with august tickets I feel your pain, I had tickets for mid-August as well. I am from NY but am currently living in SoCal and can't change my plans for just one show - really heartbroken though. This was the thing I was excited for most other than Into the Woods. Honestly shocked that it's closing after all its Tony wins.
