DEATH OF A SALESMAN 2026 Previews

Mar 8, 2026 — 12:07:10 AM

I was at tonight’s second preview (ran about 2:55), and I quite adored this. I went into it expecting to love both lead performances, but also knowing that structurally, this was Willy’s story. That being said, while Nathan Lane is truly brilliant, Laurie Metcalf walks away with the show. Her Linda is stoic, terrified, loving, and cold all at once. The “Attention must be paid” scene was electric. But again, Lane is doing some career-best work here, and his chemistry with Metcalf is terrific. ...

Hilty & Simard to lead DEATH BECOMES HER in Chicago spring 2024

May 8, 2024 — 8:37:23 PM

I was at the show last night and had an absolute BLAST. There is definitely work that needs to be done structurally, but I found it so refreshing to see a big musical comedy with really funny jokes that are actually character-driven and not random one-liners (looking at you, Robert Horn). Hilty is a comic revelation and it is wonderful to finally see Simard in the Leading Lady role she so rightfully deserves. Sieber is a comic master as always, and I hope they find a way to expand Josh Lamon’...

THE THANKSGIVING PLAY Previews

Mar 25, 2023 — 10:26:55 PM

Just got out of the first preview (ran a tight hour and 40, as advertised). Holy Crap, was that fun!I went in to this pretty blind and I highly recommend it. As I was leaving the theater, I overheard someone say they saw it at Playwrights and noticed quite a few changes to the script. I think this is the play The Minutes wanted to be and wasn’t. The satire in this was much more pointed and nuanced, which can obviously be attributed to having a Native American playwright. The cast is uniformly ...

SWEENEY TODD Revival announces further casting

Feb 26, 2023 — 7:06:56 PM

Just want to echo some thoughts and amplify some others.I wasn’t completely sold on the movement-heavy approach until Act 2. I found the staging for the opening pretty underwhelming, save for Groban’s entrance which was absolutely thrilling. “God, That’s Good” was a definite highlight, staging-wise.Groban played the Sweeney I’ve always wanted to see: an every-man with a gradual descent into madness. I often feel most Sweenies start at a 10 on the madness scale.Annaleigh was magical. Funny, se...

A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE AT CSC Preview Thread

Oct 11, 2022 — 11:02:35 PM

Longtime lurker, first time poster. I was at the first preview tonight and figured I’d put my 2 cents in. Overall, it was a strong start that is sure to improve from here. First off, as you may or may not have heard, the show is now one act, running an hour and 45 minutes (show started around 7:07 and ended around 8:51). I’m not familiar enough with the book to say exactly what was cut. The one song that didn’t make it in was “Art”, which is a cute number, but I will admit that its absence do...
