Well, I can't claim to know even the slightest thing about versions other than the recent movie (so I have nothing to compare to), but I thought I'd add my two cents anyhow. I found it entertaining on a sort of mindless level -- I could sit and watch it without thinking too much about it. I did laugh at a few parts, but not a whole lot.
