It's a wonderful, touching, moving and very French film and I think it would work magically on stage. Now if I had $10 million to invest...

re: Death of leading British vocal coach Ian Adam May 13 2007, 04:04:33 AM
A few personal memories of Ian: He never answered the phone but if you called when he had finished teaching you knew could be sure that once he knew who it was he would pick up the phone and say "Oh hello darling' in that lovely soft Scots voice. He was extremely proud of his Scottish roots and always insisted that I was a Scot too -only 1/4 true. He loved the high life and would never miss a first night - I remember seeing him at Woman in White on the arm of a well-known actress friend as he sw

Death of leading British vocal coach Ian Adam May 10 2007, 06:45:41 PM
Ian Adam, vocal coach to leading West End and Broadway stars, has died in London after a short illness. He worked closely with Andrew Lloyd Webber on many of his most successful shows such as Evita, Cats, Starlight Express and Phantom and coached the legendary OLC of Les Miserables. His penetrating, intensely musical and inspirational teaching had a profound influence on the singing style of artists like Michael Crawford, Elaine Paige and Michael Ball, and indeed the success of the British Mu

some categories, snce it's Oscars time. Best up-tempo vaudeville song: Comedy Tonight from A Funny Thing Happened Best up-tempo dance/ensemble number: Magic to Do from Pippin Best use of curtains in a opening number: 42nd Street Most exciting staging for an opening number: Lion King. When I heard about this, I immediately thought of Helena Bonham Carter for Mrs Lovett. Now I see she is one of the people tipped to play the part . She would be perfect ( remember her in Branagh's Frankenstein?). She is that bit older than she was and capable of hamming it up beautifully.

re: ALW Fears Musical Future Aug 5 2006, 10:29:06 PM
As I share the same initials I am sometimes confused with Lord LW. Certainly his words confuse me. I found EVITA underwhelming, PHANTOM a gorgeous candy with flashes of real emotion, ASPECTS pretty yet tedious, SUNSET patchy and WOMAN IN WHITE an operetta in all but name. He is best when writing rock operas. JCS is probably his best score, and there is some cool stuff in TELL ME ON A SUNDAY and WHISTLE. I never got to CATS and can't say I regret it although you have to admit MEMORY h

Saturday night at the Odeon Leicester Square, London. 2,000 people watch in spellbound silence as Leonardo di Caprio fights for his life in freezing seas after TITANIC sinks. Girl (in loud stage whisper) I can't watch this next bit. It's so sad... when he dies.
