Who played opposite Bebe when she returned as Roxie? Jul 14 2013, 12:43:26 PM
A friend of mine actually saw Bebe as Roxie (and still couldn't remember who played Velma), she said that she was fairly good (not as good as when she was playing Velma, but better than many Roxies she had seen). She especially loved the way she danced and told me how she couldn't even tell that Bebe had a hip replacement. My friend is probably biased, but given that Bebe can sing and dance, I imagine that she would have been okay as Roxie. Maybe she could use a bit more warmth, but I still woul

Who played opposite Bebe when she returned as Roxie? Jul 13 2013, 11:22:29 PM
Several years ago, Bebe Neuwirth, the original Velma of the Chicago revival, returned to the show as Roxie. I wanted to see the show, but couldn't because that just happened to be my semester abroad. So, I was just really curious...who was Bebe's Velma??

EVITA national tour? Jul 13 2013, 04:41:54 PM
I would personally love to see Elena on the road even though I know that won't be happening. I really don't think that Elena was "worse" than other Evas. I did hear that she had some consistency issues, but still I like her take on Eva Peron. I also agree that part of the reason that people are more critical of her here is that we keep comparing her to Patti. Well, there is the fact that Patti is just a better singer, but I think part of the reason that Elena doesn't sound as strong has to do wi

re: How long will Phantom run??? Jul 13 2013, 02:47:29 PM
I'm unsure if anyone can say a certain show has been running for "too long." With that said, one thing that I find kind of disturbing is the fact that the show has become a tourist destination. I state this from my personal experience, so I'm not sure if other people would agree. As someone living in Manhattan, I have a lot of friends (like friends from college) that visit and unless they're particularly interested in musical theater, the first time they're in New York, they go and watch Phantom

It feels kinda weird reading this now. For a sec, I didn't realize that the original thread was from 8 years ago and was really confused (I was like...what?? I thought that The phantom was the longest running show on broadway..??). I actually like Cats better than The phantom and hope that they would do a revival. It's been like what..over a decade since they closed?? I feel like there should be a revival in the next few years.

When did the trend of belting start?? Jul 12 2013, 02:54:46 PM
I totally agree with you!! Although every role is difficult in its own way, I personally find high belts to be physically straining. However, when I'm on the other side (watching instead of performing) I really like it. I'm just curious though, is it really impossible to belt 8 times a week or is it that the performers haven't figured out a way to belt in the right way?

Isn't Mark in the Rent a narrator?? Not sure if someone has already mentioned him.

When did the trend of belting start?? Jul 12 2013, 01:27:16 PM
Wow, thanks!! I wasn't aware of this. I guess I have a lot more to learn. Well, I guess I was asking about the increase in the number of female roles that require a lot of belting. Still, thanks for the reply

When did the trend of belting start?? Jul 12 2013, 12:31:34 PM
Today my friend, a soprano whose background is in opera, was complaining about how nowadays belting was preferred to other method of singing. Aside from whether this is true (whether it is really "preferred"), there certainly seem to be a lot more female roles that are belted, especially with more modern shows. I feel that this wasn't the case with the female roles in more classic shows (e.g.Westside Story, The phantom of the opera...etc). When do you think it all happened? One particular s
