Idol contestents on broadway

I was once playing auditions for, I think, "The Color Purple", up at [ NAME OF CASTING OFFICE REDACTED ]. It was like an "Idol" mini-reunion. In addition to the ex-Idol in the room, there were at least 3 more, schmoozing in the hallway as they waited for their various auditions !

The music, as I remember, was lovely. The lyrics ... childlike and naive, like the show itself. Genevieve could not sing. It seemed like a John/Yoko blinded-by-love scenario at the time.

Yeah ... I worked on it, and everything you heard about it true, including the part about the ghost director and the "real" director getting into a fistfight. Sample lyric ( approximate ... hey, it's almost 40 years later ! )from Wernher von Braun's ( yes, you read it correctly ! ) solo number: "I built the V-1 I built the V-2 What I did to London, now I'll do to you!"
