This isn't necessarily a bad change. But it is bad casting. I was in the Music Man last summer, and the director cast a girl with a lisp as Amaryllis. I thought it was quite odd for her to be making fun of Winthrop for having a lisp, when she had one herself.

I hope your audition went well. I was in The Music Man last summer, and it was an incredibly fun show. My favorite parts were definitely the library and shipoopi dances.

I really enjoyed the movie, but maybe that's because I've never seen it live.

Exactly... I mean Barry Bostwick originated the role of Danny. I don't necessarily think of him as looking perfect for the part, but I'm sure he did just fine. I think the problem is that most people are comparing the Broadway cast to the movie cast, even though the stage version and film version are different.
