Some generic comments on this thread... "American Beauty" is a beautiful story that sings, but what would you *add* by adding music to it. Ken Mandelbaum, in Not Since Carrie, talks about the things that keep a musical from succeeding, and one thing he touches on is stories that don't need music to tell them.
