re: West Side Story Reviews Mar 20 2009, 05:55:21 AM
From: BroadwaySergey.com: http://www.broadwaysergey.com/2009/03/west-side-story-broadway-review.html "During the performance of “Maria” voice of Tony (Matt Cavenaugh) was ok, but too dim and not sonorous. It sounded like a bad opera singer for me. Sometimes too high, sometimes too quiet that I couldn’t hear beginning and the end of some words in the song. His acting wasn’t perfect-pitching also" "Set and light design did not really impress me. Especially light design. In my opinion there should be some more colors in West Side Story. Through play of colors light designer and director can express the feelings of the characters, the whole situation, can make it more powerful, emotionally, touching. But this production of West Side Story was colorless..." "In spite of all the minuses it is still West Side Story. And it’s still must see show for all fans of musical theatre. It just could have been done better. I would recommend to see it from mezzanine or even from balcony, perhaps like me for half price (partial view seats). The choreography scenes are amazing from mezzanine and balcony, and you really don’t have to see all the face expressions of the actors..."

re: BILLY ELLIOT - First Preview - 10/01/08 Oct 2 2008, 06:33:25 AM
I saw the first preview and it was really great. Everything in this show is great: the story, sets, music, lyrics, choreography. I really liked the colors on the stage, the light design was perfect, it was really amazing, it’s impossible to explain, you have to see it live. Kiril Kulish was great. I want to compare him with Liam Mower from the original London cast. He was as brilliant as him, the same level. Excellent job! And Electricity was performed brilliantly! I think that is the show level of Wicked, but real drama, not fairytale. Well, not a big surprise I guess, because they have the same producer – Universal. The whole production is amazing, not worse than original London production for sure. And yes, they all speak with British accent, and Maggie Thatcher song wasn’t cut! Everything is there! I swear it is the best show Broadway can offer this season. No doubt it will win Tony for the best musical of 2009! I just can’t even imagine what musical can be better then Billy Elliot! re: Watched first preview of '13'. My points. )) Sep 29 2008, 12:03:47 AM
Yesterday I watched 13 again. Not because I like it, just got free ticket, lol. So I made new review (part 2) on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioodMUva2gk Well, have to admit they improved it a lot since first preview and now it looks much better and…faster. They got rid of the intermission as well as of 2 songs: one was in the end of the first act (“Here I come”) and second was in the beginning of the second(“Opportunity”). So now it looks faster and not boring as last time. It is definitely a good decision. Then, last time I said that nothing touched me in the musical. Well, this time the final (almost) song “Little more homework” was performed by the whole cast so great that it really touched me so much. It was really amazing. But other minuses are still the same. I like opening and the finale, but in the middle there is still a room for improvement. Looks like creators targeted for both kids and adults audience. But it appeared to be too rough for kids (all these inappropriate jokes about terminal illness or different religious and so on) and too silly and boring (lyrics, book, story) for adults.

re: Economic Depression will kill new shows this fall Sep 26 2008, 04:24:01 AM
I understand that there is an economical crisis but still.. Average hostel price in NYC $15-$30 a day! Average discount ticket for a Broadway show is $49 for orchestra and close to stage! (if u buy in the box office). Average fast food meal - $8. So to come to nyc for a day and see 1 great Broadway show from the orchestra and close to stage u need about $100 + plane/bus/train tickets cost. SO it’s not so bad. Of course if u want to stay in 4-5 star hotel and eat in 2-3 star

re: EQUUS Reviews Sep 26 2008, 01:18:28 AM
It was my first Broadway play (not musical). I was so excited. U can see my video review on YouTube. Lol The play is great and no need to tell more about it. I sat on the “stage seats” and there were some disadvantages and advantages: A plus: You see behind the stage work and you see some details from angles that impossible to see from the orchestra (and in the nude scene too, lol). A minus: The seats not exactly on stage. It’s above the stage (on the balcony level!!!). And you have to lean all the show to see something on stage. Not really comfortable and not exactly on stage. re: '13' Review-9/21/08 Sep 21 2008, 09:35:50 PM
Hehe. So not only I think that this show is not good enough for Broadway. )) BenKaye and Broadwayfan3 I agree with many of your points. Especially not good enough book, choreography (except first and last songs, lol), and this show is really not for adults. Some people ask why do I think that this show is not for adults, and why do I think that it’s ok for people under 16. Well, first of all I just assume that, I am not sure. I just said that you will PROBABLY like it if you are be

Thanks for responses! I just want to add several things. 1. Of course it is only my opinion. I do not generalize. I just think (and yes, it’s only MY opinion) that the show is designed more for kids audience rather than for adults. And I didn’t say that the show is BAD and you shouldn’t watch it. But I really think it doesn’t worth $60-$120 like any other Broadway show, and a lot of kids can’t afford that price anyway. 2. If you think that the show is so great, can yo

Watched the first preview of "13". My points)) Sep 21 2008, 01:01:38 PM
I watched the first preview of the “13”. My points: 1. The lyrics is really simple, silly and sometimes stupid. Like for example “A friend won’t smoke when she’s in your room…. A friend won’t go and start kissing your brother the minute you’re out of sight”. It was in the song “What means to be a friend”. And the much worse and sillier in other songs. I mean have you seen “Hamlet 2” in the movie theater? Do you remember the musical they produced? Well the lyrics remind me that musical because it was so silly and you laugh not because it is really funny, but because of the words in the lyrics. 2. The story and the whole action are like you are watching another episode of another kids show on Disney channel. The plot hardly can touch any person older than 15-16. 3. Kids played great and I liked the voices with some little exceptions. 4. Choreography was not good and rocked only in the first song (13) and the very last song (Brand new you). In between it was colorless and not interesting except few moments. In my opinion you will probably like it if you are not older than 16 and if you really want to see a show with all kids (you like kids so much, lol). But it definitely doesn’t cost full and even half price tickets. In other words I felt like I watched some school production, yeah it is funny but it’s not really Broadway level and definitely doesn’t cost $60-$120 (price of Broadway ticket). You can also watch my video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKnKZl4sDwE Thanks! ))
