Flash back to Sunset’s first performances in London and all the same people who are saying Evita is impossible to do in NYC were saying the same thing about the Sunset stroll.
Evita is far and above Sunset as a title in popularity and familiarity. Rachel is also a bigger celebrity than Nicole. Not saying it WILL be financially successful, but it’s far from impossible. Which if you’re keeping score at home, that’s the same odds the vast majority of new

Moulin Rouge’s summer sales were never gangbusters after the pandemic closure. It’s not really a show tourists can take their kids to when there’s Hamilton Disney and Wicked always with a ticket available. Not to say their sales plummet, but they’re not a tourist smash the way the family shows are.
Money is absolutely on Evita coming in on the timeline Sunset did.

People complain about theaters sitting empty then have takes like this. The market is crap, this show has just as much shot as any of the others at success given it now has a decently established fanbase and IP. If they get Celine to show up, it can also have a bit of a pop culture moment too. Easy to assume they’ll close the balcony for this.
You can’t beg for a full season and then complain when it fills up.

Sonia Friedman is nothing if not a *smart* producer. She’s smart enough and has complained enough about the costs to open a show this big on NYC to say there’s a 80/20 chance she keeps this on London. Paddington is a distinctly British IP and it would be a massive risk on Broadway.

Actually would believe Ariana would do something like this. She’s a theater person through and through. What it would mean for ticket prices however makes me physically ill. Her arena tour tickets were insanely priced, cut that capacity down to 1/10 for a theater? Forget about it.
