Joe Turner's Adding Phone Stickers? May 29 2026, 03:00:30 PM
Any given celebrity (or also any big brand IP/music catalogue akin to MJ can be a culprit of this as well) can bring in a fanbase that aren't avid theatergoers and have no sense of theater etiquette. It's a double edged sword because at the same time you're bringing new people into the fold of theatergoing, a GREAT thing, the experience can be diminished for those that are aware of and adhere to the unspoken code of conduct when in a theater.

GIRL, INTERRUPTED (The Play With Music”) At The Public May 29 2026, 02:57:13 PM
Art Isn’t Easy said: "It happens offstage. Quite a lot of material that could have been affecting or upsetting is just narrated to us by Canfield or explained by other characters."
How does that not make this endeavor entirely toothless? Not saying this should be glorified, but that is one of the most important moments of the film. To not even try to dramatize it feels like an abject failure.
I'm so tired of directors/writers/producers not trusting t

Any buzz on Romeo and Juliet? May 29 2026, 02:49:14 PM
Apolitical and literally dramatizing a US border/immigration policy that's happening right now are opposite ends of the spectrum. Obviously, productions that have leaned into themes of the moment, etc have always done well. As you say, it's the heavy handed "LOOK AT THIS MOMENT WE ARE IN!!!!" approach that turns people off.

Joe Turner's Adding Phone Stickers? May 29 2026, 02:39:34 PM
The reason they're doing stickers and not Yondr pouches is cost. Point blank period.
And no, it's not a weird choice to point out MJ as another horribly behaved audience. BECAUSE THEY ARE! A fact is a fact regardless of your feelings. Other shows can also (and DO!) have bad audiences, but having using two examples is not something to interrogate like you're ready to cancel someone like it's 2020.

Any buzz on Romeo and Juliet? May 29 2026, 02:31:20 PM
These productions need to understand what should have been learned post-2016. Shows that are literally about current events, especially those associated with the loon in the White House and his policies are NOT what people want to see right now. We're living it. We don't need to spend another 3 hours watching it dramatized.

Ed Harris, Allison Janney & Julia Louis Dreyfuss - OTHER DESERT CITIES Revival?? May 26 2026, 02:16:00 PM

Love them both, but we're gonna need some star power if this is ever going to work and Bug wasn't exactly a runway financial smash for MTC.

Ed Harris, Allison Janney & Julia Louis Dreyfuss - OTHER DESERT CITIES Revival?? May 26 2026, 12:25:07 PM
If a revival of Other Desert Cities is happening, there have to be wheels in motion for one for August....right?

COME FROM AWAY returning to Broadway? May 21 2026, 03:14:02 PM
Honestly wouldn't be a horrible endeavor for them. The show is cheap to run by today's standards and they still have the set and everything in storage if it's to be a remount.

I'll be on the lookout for a "Creative Consultant" credit on the opening night title page.

Krysta Rodriguez announced as the next Roxie May 21 2026, 03:01:37 PM
This show has had a bit of a renaissance in the past 3 years to put it mildly. And we have Jinkx Monsoon to thank for kicking that off honestly. It's true that many of the old hats have recently left, so it does feel less creaky, but they still phone it in.

"Warriors" the musical coming to Broadway May 21 2026, 02:56:06 PM
I'll believe Kail isn't involved in this for Broadway when I see the official announcement. Koons' resume seems more geared toward experiential events rather than ever having directed a full musical by herself at this level, so color me skeptical.

"Warriors" the musical coming to Broadway May 20 2026, 02:15:38 PM
I'd be slightly more enthused about this if I knew someone other than Tommy Kail was directing. His work as of late has been so uninspired (don't get me started on Sweeney). It would be nice to see Lin collaborate with other artists as I think he could do with a bit of a foil that challenges him to push his work in different directions.
Everything from In the Heights to Hamilton to his work with Disney is operating at the top of his g

Now, if only STRANGER THINGS gets ousted for IN THE HEIGHTS, while FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME schedules a 2-3 month limited run at the Imperial... Miranda would complete what would be a wildblock monopoly at some point in 2027."

Gaten Matarazzo to lead RENT in the West End May 20 2026, 01:25:14 PM
Meh. I don't think a revival of this is in any way necessary. Re: Broadway prospects...if Jeffrey Seller thought it would be worthwhile to celebrate the 30th with a Broadway revival, he would've done it himself. Instead, it's shipped off to London.

The way that man sings Sondheim, I hope he never plays it. Drops every phrase, runs (?!), the list goes on. The DEH mannerisms and gestures are still there.

God I hope not.
Safe to say theres zero chance this doesn't transfer but further that there's zero chance it transfers without either of these stars.

Who is running the best Tony campaign? May 14 2026, 03:34:48 PM
Not infrequently do those flashy Tony campaigns work against shows, particularly in the big categories. Lest we forget the 2004 Tony race.
I do think Schmigadoon will ultimately take Best Musical with Lost Boys racking up in technical categories and having the ability to run on XX Tony Award Winner messaging for a bit. There was a lot of anger around Schminto the Woods getting canceled and the show is a love letter to the artform. Industry folks love
