Next for the Broadhurst

Jul 16, 2026 — 8:45:46 AM

The success of Death of a Salesman (and the great play that was Little Bear Ridge Road), just further cement Rudin as a producer with exquisite taste and that the terminal online with pitchforks and torches for him clearly aren’t representative of the general public. People are still stuck in the 2020 era of cancellation and it makes them look foolish. Let them crash out in their corner of the internet and ignore them.

Will the wildfire smoke have an effect on Broadway?

Jul 16, 2026 — 7:29:29 AM

In 2023 when we were living in a Dune installment under orange skies, Broadway refused to go dark for a night and several shows had to cancel performances because performers called out instead. And GOOD FOR THEM for it too. The fact that the league didn’t take the hazards to actors seriously in that moment is a really egregious recent example of negligence.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/13/26

RippedMan said: "I’d totally agree to that. But also as a betting man, I would have thought this revival would have run much longer. I think they needed to tap into the Drag Race franchise and tie the two together."They had many Drag Race queens as the judges throughout the run. Ballroom has its own identity and Drag Race is decidedly not that, at least hasn’t been in 10 years. The real reason this show didn’t take off is because they didn’t bring it in at the height of its momentum, they ins...

Wicked's Dropping Grosses

Jul 10, 2026 — 10:00:06 PM

It’s definitely trending downward and it pretty much correlates to following the second film and a strong holiday. That second movie damaged the brand, unfortunately. As someone said it exacerbated the issues the show has. Couple that with tourism drops, perfect storm. It would be absolutely crazy to think of any other show in the Gershwin though. Even if we’re still talking 5 years from now.

DOLLY: A TRUE ORIGINAL MUSICAL begins on Broadway in December 2026

Jul 7, 2026 — 2:42:51 PM

darquegk said: "I don't think you can compare Dolly the musical to MJ the musical, even with quality as an afterthought. Dolly is a beloved entertainer, America's meemaw. Michael Jackson is just shy of being a literal demigod. Death could not slow him down. Three different rounds of credible abuse allegations could not slow him down. The move to streaming and away from album sales could not slow him down. He's pure teflon, and his musical is 100% going to perform differently than anyone else'...

The Whoopi Monologues - Lincoln Center (Off-Bwy)

Jul 7, 2026 — 1:40:01 PM

This definitely sucks and I'm sorry that was your experience. The thing to remember with the non-profit union contracts, no one gets billed above title and there's no automatic trigger for an exchange/refund if a given star is out. So they don't have to go out of their way, but most orgs do because the nonprofit theater is dying and retention is of utmost importance. Definitely something I've learned the hard way a time or two.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6/26

I'd even say add Mincemeat, Outsiders and Buena Vista Social Club to those that will not be running in the year 2027.

Really a testament to how crap last season was, honestly. Schmigadoon and The Lost Boys doing exact same business as they did before the Tonys. Unsustainable.Willing to bet that not one of the 25-26 new musicals will be running past January 3, 2027.

Even in the best of circumstances, there was a possibility that the COVID effect could’ve been insurmountable. It's fine, the majority of people on this board aren't inclined to like shows like this. I g...

DOLLY: A TRUE ORIGINAL MUSICAL begins on Broadway in December 2026

Jul 7, 2026 — 12:54:02 PM

You can always tell when a show isn't for the people on this board, because without missing a trick, everyone starts prognosticating it's demise.Truth is, we're all snobs. And sometimes it's just not that serious and people have a good time and the show rides on that. Someone mentioned MJ and I seem to remember many on this board saying it wouldn't last and here we are.People love Dolly. And a lot of people love Dolly. It's not a forgone conclusion. The audiences for Paddington and Warriors a...

New Jennifer Nettles musical, GIULIA, will premiere in NY this fall

Jul 7, 2026 — 12:33:13 PM

I just looooove me some Jennifer Nettles and wishing her every success with this show. You can tell just how deeply she cares about the work she makes and that's been since Sugarland. Flashback to 2021, I actually found her Jenna in Waitress to be the most moving of those I'd seen (Jessie, Sara, Betsy). She brought genuine southern warmth to Jenna that I had not seen in any of the others. Being from the south, that hit such deeper chords for me.Thrilled she's found a love in theater and hope ...

Is Dreamgirls Still Coming in this season?

Jul 3, 2026 — 8:13:12 AM

Entirely agree with the above. Especially after seeing Gypsy’s choreography alone (save for one or two dim glimmers of greatness), I have zero faith in her ability to helm a revival of this magnitude. It’s not outlandish to believe investors would want a more seasoned director for a revival that won’t be cheap and needs to hit it out of the park. They want a shot at making at least some of their money back. Some of yall really hate that art is subjective. And that’s a big problem.

Broadway61004 said: "I hate to say this, because she's insanely talented and could sing the heck out of this role, but realistically, she would have been a great Effie...15 years ago. The character(s) are supposed to age from approximately 16 to 26 throughout the course of the show. By the time this actually happens next year, Mann will be 39 or more likely 40. That's just a bit too much of a stretch....."Tiffany absolutely can and has performed much younger. What are you talking about.

Moana Live? Greatest Showman Status? Next for Disney?

Jul 1, 2026 — 1:08:46 PM

How was Greatest Showman's first production received? Considering haven't heard much of anything, I assume it wasn't great. I seem to remember people saying it felt like Water for Elephants productionwise, but could have dreamed that.

Is Dreamgirls Still Coming in this season?

Jul 1, 2026 — 1:02:16 PM

Tiffany would be a phenomenal Effie and it would be a star-making moment for her that's long overdue, so that's disappointing, but workshop casts don't always continue with the show when it's primetime.I'll believe that a Dreamgirls revival is actually happening on first preview and the curtain is up. This show has been discussed coming back for nearly a decade and has been delayed time and time again.

Is the Hercules Transfer Dead?

Jun 29, 2026 — 11:06:01 AM

There are some directors that get thrown everything because they're "a sure thing" like Nicholaw. When in reality, that approach just keeps giving us more and more disappointing, cold, uninspired slop. And with shows that have such potential already built in.

A lot of theaters are going to be vacant in the coming months - any idea of what’s going where?

singer234 said: "I'm wondering what happens if Spring Awakening hits it out of the park. Hypothetically how long could they stay at Studio Seaview for? If it sells out, do they transfer to New World or try a limited run at a small bway house? I imagine the limited run is going to sell quickly initially."That'll have the Hudson in the Spring if they want it I'd bet.
