Lolita, My Love - Score/Script Jul 7 2009, 02:39:52 PM
Would anyone have an idea as to how I could get my hands on a copy of the score or libretto for this forgotten masterpiece?

I saw the current Broadway production this past Friday evening.

I did get the feeling I was watching a Six Flags action-adventure spectacle.

re: Question for TDF members: Re: POTO Tickets Jun 10 2009, 10:37:25 AM
Actually, I lie. About a half dozen times I've seen it from Standing room as well. But we're talking a span of almost 20 years here.

But how different could it be? The material hasn't changed, has it?

Fluff it may be, but I've done a little reading about the music since I saw it, and there are some interesting things that I missed, like the "unlimited" theme (which I can't remember) containing the first seven notes of "over the rainbow" and some other musical points of reference. I would like to listen to the entire score again with leitmotifs in mind. I'm determined to get more out of this show.

I really want to give it another chance. I think the allegory is beautiful, and for that reason alone, I'm glad it's so "pop-u-lar" but the music didn't seem, well, very much like musical theater music at all. To me, it didn't sound like Stephen Schwartz either. I would like to see it again, but I don't want to pay $70 again. Anyone know the best day to do the lottery? And where are the lottery seats anyway?

And I guess I just don't get it. Am I the only one?

Question for TDF members: Re: POTO Tickets Jun 10 2009, 09:16:21 AM
I have a questions for those of you who are TDF members. The tickets for Phantom, it says on the website that they "may be rear mezz seats." In your experience, have you always gotten rear mezz seats for Phantom or do you sometimes get better seats? I've seen it a dozen or more times, but never closer than the rear mezz. I'd give my eye teeth to see it closer, but I simply can't afford it. If you know if the TDF seats are usually closer or if they are closer on certain days, I would really appre

True, I just meant with all the closings lately. I've seen Story and Phantom lately. I'm good with off-bway too if anyone has any ideas.

But what's left to rush? Shrek, I guess. Equus is closed. DOes 39 steps have rush? I wish TB hadn't talken down their rush page, it was the best one.

re: Re: Phantom 2 Feb 11 2009, 03:20:30 PM
That would be interesting. I'm just curious as to if they are going to harken back to some of the design schemes. Like those incredibly rich blues and blacks. The original is a very dark show, but gorgeous. I think they really took a chance on the choices they made.

re: Phantom still in good shape Feb 11 2009, 03:08:54 PM
They also have cushions for small children. I saw a few ushers putting them on seats for younger viewers. I thought that was very nice of them. The kids were so well behaved too.

Im curious if this new production is going to dovetail the original production in terms of design, has anyone heard anything about this?

I didn't see the Blue streak you mentioned, what scene was it in? I think I am going to see it again on Monday. It's really a great bargain.

re: Phantom still in good shape Feb 11 2009, 09:51:24 AM
Justafan, I thought they had more than one Christine playing the role so that they just add a slip for whoever is playing Christine that night. Maybe I'm wrong though, I did think that was curious. Howard McGillin is great, isn't he?

Thanks gingersnap. The seats are really inexpensive Mon-Thurs and you can definitely move closer if the ushers don't mind. It's a great show. I may go again. I hope that the sequel creates a visual link between both productions. Part of what makes POTO great is the beautiful design

Phantom still in good shape Feb 11 2009, 08:50:21 AM
I saw POTO last night, and I was surpised it is still in good shape. The singing is excellent and Howard McGillin is superb. I have a question. Do you know how much if any of the show is pre-recorded? I have a feeling that part if not all of the overture is prerecorded as well as part of the title song (especially the end) and some of the voiceovers.
