Im curious if this new production is going to dovetail the original production in terms of design, has anyone heard anything about this?

what do you mean by that?
If you mean to be similar, i doubt it. if they wanted it similar they would get Maria Bjornson's associate that expanded Phantom for Vegas to design the show. And from what I;ve seen of Crowley's other works, It will look dreadful or badly abstracted with overly lit saturated colour, lol. (mind you I am only basing that on Tarzan, Poppins and Aida)
But i am interested in what was mentioned in an article about "creating coney island right before your eyes as the opening number"

That would be interesting. I'm just curious as to if they are going to harken back to some of the design schemes. Like those incredibly rich blues and blacks. The original is a very dark show, but gorgeous. I think they really took a chance on the choices they made.
