Posted: 3/11/09 at 1:37pmI think Patti would be great, especially after seeing her Rose's turn "meltdown." I also think Betty Buckley could do fairly well among the divas of Broadway.

As much as I adore Patti, I'd be a little skeptical.
But if Phylicia Rashad can do it . . .

Posted: 3/11/09 at 1:51pmAnyone who saw Phylicia Rashad in Raisin in the Sun knows she can play it. The only question is one of dramatic logic.

Patti LuPone? Carol Channing? Sheesh, if we're gonna go down that road, then just cast Charles Busch and be done with it.

I'm just saying that I think Ms LuPone has the chops to do it and do it well. The idea has nothing to do with her being known as a musical theater diva.

Posted: 3/12/09 at 10:42pmI would kind of kill to see a one night only type thing of August with Elaine Stritch as Violet. Yes, she's too old for the part (although I think she's not far from Estelle Parson's age), but hell, she would be hilarious.

Elaine Stritch's age shows much more than Estelle's. She's also not even HALF as agile as Estelle is.
But to answer the real topic, I don't think Patti would be a very good idea. I don't know why, but I don't feel like she would connect with the part on a real level. Deanna and Estelle had beautifully layered and deep performances, but I don't see Patti connecting in the same way.
