Color Purple Rush Question
#0Color Purple Rush Question
Posted: 12/19/05 at 3:01amI'm coming into nyc next week, and was wondering what the rush line was like. How early do you think I should show up? Is the show that much of a hit to be in line at 6a.m.? Or can I wait till 9???

How much do they charge for Rush tickets? I'm a little annoyed that their Orch. seats ($101) cost as much as Front Mezz AND Rear Mezz. AND partial view are the same price as well. That, to me, is a rip off. Why should I sit in the REAR Mezz. or in a partial view seat for the same price as someone third row center? Do they charge 101 for rush or is it a deal?

Posted: 12/19/05 at 9:51amactually, the top ticket price for The Color Purple is now $111. it was *totally worth* my $26, but I would have been annoyed had I spent $111. the only show on broadway right now worth $111 is (don't hate me) Wicked.

I got there at 11:30 for a 12PM distro (Thursday eve) and got first row still. It's not a hard rush to get.
/would have paid $50 but not more...see "5 shows" thread for more.

bumping... fyi, rushed The Color Purple yesterday (Wed 1/5) for the evening show, got to the box office at 11am and there were about 12 people in line in front of me, and then a whole bunch of people joined the line after me, and the box office started selling the evening rush tickets at 11:30am, not noon like usual. Apparently there was a woman who was in line somewhere in front of me who put her stuff down 'saving' her place in line and left, and she wasn't around at 11:30am (expecting a noon sale) when the line started buying. Just an fyi for those looking for rush info.
...and on a personal note: I loved the show even more the second time around. :)

Posted: 1/5/06 at 6:08pmWhat time do tickets go on sale for the matinees? Is it noon as well? Thanks so much for your post Anakela- I am planning on going this Saturday and we would prefer the matinee (although we could go to the evening if necessary) but the matinee is better for us.

Matinees go on sale when the box office opens (10am except for Sundays 12 noon).
I rushed this morning for tonight, got there at 11:30 and got Row C Orchestra.
Most of the people waiting in line were there to buy full priced tickets for tonight. Much to their surprise, the box office lady said, sorry these ($26 front orchestra seats!) are all we have. These two tourists were flipping out like they'd won the lottery, lol.

Posted: 1/5/06 at 9:47pmI enjoyed the show a lot more than I expected....I just found the book very flawed in that nothing really draws me in....it could have been because I was sitting all the way in Roseland, but for $26 in advance, I didn't expect anything else.

suzycat- I *heart* this show, completely recommend it. I saw it for the second time this week, (both times via rush tix), I am already plotting a third visit for maybe next week, and I am wearing out playing the three free download songs on my ipod until the cast recording comes out (January 24).
It is not a perfect show- compared to Walker's novel (which I just re-read last week) there is a lot of really intense stuff that is glossed while on stage, and some stuff that is skipped altogether, and I think one of the songs is a little cheesy, but the musical's cast is just so absolutely amazing that I don't care about the rest of that. The second time I saw it I felt the cast was even better than the first time, which I did not think was even possible. And if you have a crowd that is really into it that makes it that much better to see.
My two cents.

Posted: 1/14/06 at 7:19pmI am going to go get rush tickets tomorrow for Color Purple. It is a Sunday so the box office opens at 12 right? Would it be OK if I got there by 10:30?
