Posted: 8/24/07 at 4:06pmBoy I bet those folks who shelled out $300+ are feeling quite stupid now!

Posted: 8/24/07 at 4:06pmthank god, i can't afford the full price tickets so this will be good, I was thinking they wouldn't have anything like that.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 4:13pmHey, I'd rather sit in the far rear sides of the Orchestra in the Hilton than, say, in the last row of the Balcony. For $25, it's great that people who otherwise weren't going to be able to afford the show are going to get the chance to see it from the Orchestra.

As soon as anyone knows anything, please share
I want to see this, and, don't feel like dumping $130 on it. Yay for discounts.

As much as I hope that getting these tickets isn't going to require "camping out" like I did back in my tween years (and, I admit, recently for the last few weeks of "Company"), I have a sinking feeling that's going to be the only way to get them.
Unless it's a lottery, which I guess is quite possible.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 4:40pmCamping out in front of the Hilton could be interesting. I can imagine having trouble falling asleep though, given all of the bright lights all over the block.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 5:02pmI don't think that they will have people camp out. That is the one reason why Rent started to do lotto. The line got so long that it was blocking the sidewalk and the cops gave citations to the theatre because everyone was online for Rent tickets. I do think that if they were smart they would do it via lotto. Or student rush. Producers had a student rush and that was the only way to get cheap tickets. I am not one to be picky bout where the hell I am siting in the theatre so as long as I get a ticket at that price i don't care where they put me in the theatre. I think that I should just be greatful that they are willing to sell tickets at that price at all. So, I am not going to complain.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 5:09pmI'll spare everyone, but I don't like shows that do student rush. I need 3 tickets, and if they make you show ID going into the theatre like Legally Blonde it is impossible for me to see shows via student rush. Not everyone wants to and can pay $120 a ticket. I think theatres should just lower all ticket prices, and make orchestra seats $80, maybe. I'd pay that. Grrrrr.

While in theory this is a great idea, I can't imagine a lottery working all that well in front of the Hilton. That small stretch of sidewalk is crowded as it is on 42nd, and you want to add potentially Wicked-sized crowds in front of it?! Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. 43rd St is an option, but time will tell I suppose.
Still, either way, $25? I'm there.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 5:19pmIf they wanted to do a lotto they could do it like a lot of shows in Chicago do and place in a bookstore on Weekends and only during the week when its not as crowded at the theatre. For Spelling Bee and Wicked they do it at a Borders on certain days and at the Theatre other days.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 5:39pmBroadwayBound062, it is always busy in front of the Hilton, weekdays and weekends. I do like the idea of doing a lotto on the 43rd Street side of the theatre, though. It's always dead over there.

Winston: I don't think that they will have people camp out. ... I do think that if they were smart they would do it via lotto. Or student rush.
Student rush is what people were talking about. People were camping out at RENT for student rush tickets, which is why they implemented the lottery. Obviously, theaters don't invite people to camp out for tickets. But if you offer first-come-first-served tickets to wildly popular shows, people will arrive as early as they can to ensure that they get tickets, even arriving the night before and sleeping there.
Also, spellcheck and line breaks. Get to know them. They can be your best friends.
I'm with everyone that they should do a rush deal like The Producers had or, if it's a lottery, hold it on 43rd Street.
ETA: By "like the Producers had," I mean only on weekday shows, when people are less likely to camp out.

"i caved... before this show becomes like the producers.. i bought a $75.00 ticket. "
It's worth it, don't worry. Although I am guilty of buying the $30 side-orchestra seats here in Seattle. I kept waiting for someone to figure out they are AMAZING seats and right next to the $80 ones, but no one ever did... and I have bought two full price tickets, opening night and closing night.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 9:18pmThe Hilton does have that large lobby though, in addition to the HUGE amount of space right inside the doors where they sell merchandise. They could do a lotto in there.

Posted: 8/24/07 at 10:48pmThis is the way that I'm going to be seeing YF mainly because my mom doesn't want to spend alot on seeing it, so we are going to try to rush it hopefully during previews in October(whatever day I'm not busy with a test or something like that). I figure that a Wednesday matinee during October should be easy to get tickets to.
