I haven't heard anything but I assume they are doing something like they have done in the past with $20 seats. Anyone know anything?
Thanks!

The 20 seats thing was a speical thing to celebrate its 10th year on broadway. Every other year they treat it as if it were another preformance but before Mark's opening monolouge the actor playing mark says " we would like to dedicate this preformance in memeory of our friend Jonathan Larson." Or something to that effect.
But, Personally, I think that RENT could have done more to make it's tenth anavarsary more public. I saw the two preformences on the day of and there were people in the audience who didn't even realize that it had been playing for ten years.
Now, a show like Chicago on the other hand put up posters saying that fact and they even went and changed their marquee.

They have done the $20 seat thing for anniversary shows in the past. Trust me, that's the only way I could've afforded seeing the anniversary shows.
One year they had $20 seats and gave out T-shirts (it was their fifth year on Broadway). And I have a ticket stub from another.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 11:11pmLast year excluded, the only thing "special" they've done in recent years is having an insert in the program that just says "Today is Rent's Xth anniversary!" Nothing else, definitely no $20 tickets.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 11:25pmIn 2005, they sold a lot of tickets for $20. I don't know if it was the entire theatre but a large group of my friends went and got orchestra seats and some front mezz for $20.

Yes, it was a day early, but it was still a wonderful celebration! I still think every anniversary should be celebrated, but you can't complain about the 10th one!

Posted: 4/12/07 at 9:45pmThey will probally just treat it as if it were any other preformance. Though it is a good show they have done a bad job of letting people know last year that it has been on broadway ten years. I don't think they will waste thier times when a majority of the audeince members wouldn't know. They only different thing that they might do is the actor playing mark will dedicate the show to larson before starting his lines.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 9:47pmYou don't think the HUGE concert they had last year was a good enough way of letting people know it's been running ten years?

Posted: 4/12/07 at 9:58pmwell I think they meant more in terms of advertising for that show - and they didnt do anything special with the marquis like they do for other show's anniversaries, did they?
#13re: Rent's 11th Years Anniversary
Posted: 4/12/07 at 10:02pmI meant in terms of getting the word out and advertising. I was both shows the actuall day of the tenth anavarsary and there was a sticker on the playbill that said ten years on broadway. I was sitting next to a guy who had no idea that it was the 10th anavarsary. I mean Chicago put up posters and changed the Marquee. Rent didn't do anything. They could have easilly changed the marquee so it had the Rent logo with that little circle with the number ten in it as their marquee. The same logo that was used for Rent 10.

Well, what could you do with Rent's marquee to announce it's anniversary. And not every show does it. Chicago changed theirs because you can work a 10 into that marquee. Phantom's marquee hasn't changed in the 20-some years since it opened.
And yes there wasn't much fanfare on the actual day of the anniversary, but I would think the concert they has in celebration was advertised enough and was a good enough celebration.

Posted: 4/12/07 at 10:18pmYou would think that the concert would let people know it has been playing for ten years but it didn't. If you look at the logo that they used for RENT 10 you would see that it is the regular logo but there is a spray paint circle comming off the top right corner of the T. It is a spray paint circle with the nuber 10 in it. This was something that they could easilly have put on the marquee considering its just the rent logo with a cricle next to it. Chicago had and still has posters saying it has been playing for ten years. They get more notice about that fact then they do from the concert. Both concerts for rent and chicago were nothing more then a 30 second spot on the local news. Had Rent eiather change their marquee or had put up posters or both more peoople would actually know.

But, as you said, the concerts for both Rent AND Chicago were just 30 second spots on the news. And yet, Chicago changed it's marquee. So, by your logic, Chicago would get more time and notice because they changed their marquee right?
And for the record, if someone next to you couldn't figure out that it was the Tenth Anniversary by looking at the Playbill with "RENT 10" on it, I'm sure changing the marquee wouldn't make a difference. Most people would prbably think the show was called Rent 10.
