This will be short as I'm quite tipsy from the after party (can we get a big YAY for open bar!) and freaking exhausted out of my mind..... I'm sure I'll have more to say once I'm coherent.
Saw WT tonight... I'm the worst critic when it comes to "stunt casting" but I have to say I loved Brooke. Please bear in mind I hadn't seen WT with Linda or Donna so I really had nothing to compare Brooke to, but nonetheless I was very pleased with her performance. She's come a long way since I saw her in Grease, that's for sure... and bravo to her for that. I ADORED Conga and I've STILL got that song stuck in my head!! Brooke was quite comical and though she couldn't hit the high notes that I'm told Donna could hit, I didn't feel cheated by her performance.
Catch her if you can. I'll definitely be returning.
And nooooow I'm going to bed
Night!

It was Brooke's "Welcome back to Broadway" Performance and Party (in other words, yes lol)

You have a guess on how she will fare with the critics? And have the audience numbers rised to acceptable with her in it?

The house was packed last night... and there was a standing ovation, which I'm told is a first in a LONG time for WT.
The audience was eating her up. What she lacked in AMAZING vocals, she made up for in other aspects of her performance.

OMG no I didnt! I had a woman usher..... but incase he's reading this thread, I was the first door to the right in the orchestra, in all black. The long sleeve top I was wearing had sleeves that were slit completely open down the arm.

CJR, do you really think you stood out wearing a black outfit in New York? Geeze, sometimes I think it's the only color the sell in NYC Dept stores!

CJR for your information there is a standing ovation with every performance. And the house was not packed on her opening night. There was only about 900 the theater holds over 1400. Brooke Shields is good in the show and she is bring in the crowd right now but she can't SING. If you seen the show with Donna or Linda you would think otherwise.

First of all dreamz, take a prozac. Second of all, I should clarify -- the ORCHESTRA was packed. I didnt go upstairs because honestly, I dont work AT the Martin Beck, er, Hirschfeld, and could care less. Technically yesterday was not Brooke's opening night.. that was a few weeks ago. I was supposed to be there and something came up. Aside from which I never claimed Brooke was a great singer. I went in expecting very little from her performance having remembered the catastrophe that was her as Rizzo in Grease and was pleasantly surprised by her performance. I said she's grown since Grease and that IS indeed true.
Trust me when I say that I'm well aware that the keys of the songs were changed, and notes were lowered for Brooke. I know and can hear that she is not the strongest singer. My point was that despite those points, I still didn't feel cheated by her performance. What she lacked in one aspect of her performance, she always made up in another aspect.
The information I was given about the Standing O came from somebody else so don't shoot the messenger. What, do you work for the AH or something?
As for the outfit DP, no, in the city I didn't stand out in it... but in the theatre last night I did lol Someone else pointed that out to me.

Brooke *did* open already and we're not trying to hold off on anything.
I never said Brooke was better than Donna or Linda, but for what and who she is, she was good. Never said fabulous, never said spectacular. I thought it was a cute show and she was good (please note the word GOOD. good is not a word I use to descripe an amazing performance).

Simma down every one. Simma. Don. Nah.
I saw the show with Brooke two weeks ago. I didn't think she was bad. She did fine. I just didn't think the show was very good overall.
