Just bought my MARY POPPINS tickets and was wondering how the view is from the balcony at the New Amsterdam theatre. I know no one can judge without having seen the show, but from past experiences in the New Amsterdam...is the view alright?

I have! I sat there for Lion King. I sat in row K and could see perfectly...Nothing was cut off on top, surprisingly.

It's high, but the view for some reason doesn't correspond.

I'm sitting in row C for Mary Poppins up there and have no regrets. ($60.00)

I sat up there and I thought I was going to die. It's high and very, very steep. BUT, if you have no qualms with heights, then you'll be fine. You can see really well from up there, and the "obstructions" are like inch-wide poles. They're not a big deal at all.

I am for Poppins. Apparently I'm in the last row on the side so we'll see how this goes.

I saw The Lion King there. Aside from the fact that it's really steep, you'll see everything just fine.

It is VERY cramped. Don't plan on moving your legs at all.

Balcony at the New Amsterdam is cramped, overpriced, and way high up. You won't find your views obstructed, but you may see too much in terms of tech, wings, etc.

Mary Poppins is such a large show that it won't matter. The set is huge, and not all of the action takes place on the ground. A lot of the times they are in different rooms of the house which are on differnt levels. The nursery is almoust at the top of the stage.

I've seen The Lion King in the first row of the theater and the last row of the theater. I had the same fantastic experience.

I'm also up there for Mary Poppins. I have a bit of a height problem, but I am thinking I will be so distracted by the show I won't notice as much.

does anyone know if it's like the balcony of the Palace? because that was WAY too high in some ways. it's lower than that, right?

It's the most uncomfertable and steep balcony on broadway. I hate it up there. Yes you can see everything, well for Lion King at least, but it ruins the magic. Beacuse the pitch is so steep you see how they do everything. I think the Balcony might be a problem for Poppins though as it looks like a more conventional proscenium(sp) show. However maybe they are directing to correct that.

I have a funny story of how I almost fell off the balcony at the Palace. I was sitting in the front row for Lestat and the man next to me at the end of the show tried leaving by going around me. Anyone who's been there knows there isn't room in front of a seat for one person, let alone two. So he went behind me and to avoid falling i had to swing around and grab his chair. OoooooOoo boy.

How is the balcony at the New Amsterdam overpriced? I payed 20 bucks.

Oh my god, I LOVE when it's steep! I can't wait to see Mary Poppins. I'm seeing it Spring Break though, so...I still haven't bought tickets, obviously. But I can't wait!

yeah the Palace's balcony is EVIL but i didn't have a problem for Lestat when i saw that. granted, i was front row balcony....

i'm hoping that the balcony for the New Amsterdam is lower than that one because i'm kind of farther back for Mary Poppins...

Isn't it "has sitten," by the by?

I'm in the nosebleed section of Mary Poppins for previews, too.

I did it for previews of The Lion King and missed the major effect of the oncoming herd scene (you see all the machinery at work from a weird "looking down on it" angle). You got most of the show, but then I was closer to front row.

Better to pay $20 to find out if it's any good first. Although I was assured I'd see everything, I don't expect to.

I've read that in London when you sit very high up you can see some of how they do things, but not to an extreme, so I'm not too worried about it. Plus the thing about the house makes me feel better as well.

You can see VERY well in the balcony, but like everyone has said. It is very steep. You also have to keep in mind that they are taking some seats out of the balcony and doing some things with the control box. Mary Poppins is suppose to fly out into the audience above your head at the end of the show. If so that would be amazing! I do know that they are taking out seats, so maybe it's TRUE! Has anyone seen the show in London?

Saw Lion King there when it first opened. You will not only see fine but you will be able to revel in the georgeous ceiling & see much more of the theater itself - which is as good as the show

Cant speak of obstructions for Poppins (i havent seen it) but Lion King was fine, although everything is far away.

I didnt find it to be that steep, London theatres are far worse, the balcony of the Palace in london is more than 45 degrees.

if you are in the new am's balcony, just try to be in the centre othewise you'll be seeing almost more of backstage than onstage

How much are they charging for Balcony? I would rather get standing room than be up there. I always feel bad for people in those horrid seats. Some of those tourists pay $90.00 for what they assume are good seats and go all the way up there. Lion King doesn't work from that height. I will never understand the pricing in this industry. It's not like they are the "cheap" seats. They are a rip-off plan and simple. If you have kids, I can't even imagine them being able to pay attention at that height, it's so distracting. I understand that these are seats and you can enjoy the show, but the price kills me. I paid $40.00 for the same seats at the Met. That was a much better deal.

$60.00 for front section.
$40.00 for mid
$20.00 for rear.

I;m sitting in the Center for row C $60.00.

For TLK I sat farther back than that and still could wonderfully, they are well worth it (as long as you're int he center, you'll be fine).
