Ghost buzz?

What do people feel/predict regarding Ghost? Will it gain a following or fizzle?

Ghost buzz?

Not sure about the NYC following, but I saw it in London and really enjoyed the show. It's not going to win any awards for being new and experimental work, but it's a solid production and the kind of thing that will appeal to dates/anniversaries/hen parties/chick flick fans. Could do very well indeed.

In my very limited experience, the hen party goes to the theatre phenomenon is MUCH more prevalent in the UK than NYC

too expensive to run. Not going to work.

I saw it in London and enjoyed it, but my first thought was, "this will be so much better on Broadway with recast leads". I found a total lack of chemistry or excitement with all three leads, although the two leads had really great voices. So I have been surprised that it wasn't recast for Broadway.

Got TDF tickets yesterday. I really like the music so far and I've heard that the special effects are great. Don't know how long this will last though. I'm guessing that this will be another CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.

I caught it over the summer in London and wasn't super impressed with the show. It will likely be able to appeal to the tourists on name recognition for a while, but I'd be surprised if it became a hit.

caught it over the summer in london and surprisingly really enjoyed it. i found cassie levy delightful and enchanting - but the real star of the show is the production design and direction itself. Very cinematic with a blend of incredble direction, set design, lighting and the music totally worked - and yep, shed a tear at the end.

highly recommend it.

Ghost buzz?

Like this thread, there is practically no or very little buzz on GHOST. The few people who even metion it are people who LOVE the movie.
The set is the only thing getting attention, and as they say, you can't leave the theatre humming the scenery.

The only cast member that had any buzz was Sharon D. Clarke and she didn't make the leap across the pond. Anyone know the real story on that?

The public better latch on to this or the Producers have hard work ahead to fill the many seats.

In London, at intermission we were all discussing the very slow, lackluster, and boring Sharon D. Clarke as Oda Mae. Couldn't believe how weak she was. Then Act II started and it was as if they recast the role at intermission -- or else someone had a major talk with her. She rocked in Act II. We could never figure out if she was purposely blowing off Act I or what was going on. But it was very bizarre.

I really have no idea why people are saying there is "no buzz" about Ghost.
I live in upstate NY and I've heard people talk about it that have little or no association with musical theater. I find it odd that I'm a few hundred miles away from NYC and I have heard talk about it.
And I've heard the music...it's not groundbreaking but neither are a lot of show tunes that people on here fawn over. The music reaches a lot of people on a emotional level...that's all they wanted to achieve. Not to "break new ground." They did that with the sets though.
I think people are underestimating it too. It is based off a movie that MANY people not only know...but love. It has a modern score, fantastic sets and special effects, and IMO, a leading cast that, while not perfect, are very engaging. The show is doing very well in London, which I know is not a FOR SURE indicator that it will do well here, but it certainly shows that there is an audience for it.

Ghost buzz?

I'm always scared when a movie is a classic that I love.
Noone can be better that Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg.
So everytime they make a musical of a beloved movie, I cringe.

I felt Legally Blonde the musical cheapened the fun Legally Blonde the film
I felt Sister Act the musical cheapened the wonderfully funny and thrilling Sister Act the musical. I felt Mary Poppins the musical, while okay, nowhere near came near the film

Conversely, I was not a fan of Priscilla the Queen of the Desert Movie but I had so much fun at the Broadway Musical. Also I loved the Producers--both on film and on Broadway.

The rule of thumb for me at least (and in my opinion).. is its better to take a mediocore movie and make it into a great musical than to take a classic film that is brilliant and cheapen it in the transformation.

I am very afraid of Ghost. I've heard the score and its a yawn. I hear the special effects are wonderful.

When they ruin a classic movie I always thing of that song by Melanie..."Look what they've done to my song, Ma."

"Look what they done to my song ma
Look what they done to my song ma
It was the only thing that I could do half right
And it's turning out all wrong ma
Look what they done to my song

Look what they done to my brain ma
Look at what they done to my brain
Well they picked it like a chicken bone
And I think I'm half insane ma
Look what they done to my song

Oh I wish I could find a good book
To live in
Oh I wish I could find a good book
Well if I could find a real good book
I'd never have to come out and look at
What they done to my song

Ils ont change ma chanson, ma
Ils ont change ma chanson, ma
C'est la seule chose que je peux faire
Et ce n'est pas bon, ma.
Ils ont change ma chanson.

Maybe it'll all be all right ma
Maybe it'll all be OK
Well if the people are buying tears
Then I'm gonna be rich someday ma
Look what they done to my song

Look what they done to my song, ma
Ma Ma look look what they done to my song
You know they tied it up in a plastic bag
And they turned it upside down ma
Ma Ma look at what they done
Won't you look at what they done
Look what they done to my song. "
