Follies and 1972 Tony's Questions
 Mar 2 2026, 10:30:27 AM

I saw Follies in its original incarnation. Without an intermission, the show felt tedious and endless. I remember dying to get out of my seat!

When I listened to the recording at home, I realized what a great score it had. Being forced to sit for almost three hours with middle age people whining about their lives  was difficult to sit through.

Then  the London  production happenned. And London added an intermission for Follies.  And suddenly the sh

THELMA & LOUISE Musical in the Works
 Jan 20 2026, 01:35:28 PM

I loved the movie Thelma and Louise/

I can't think of how this can be a musical when its a traveling female buddy musical mostly in  a car travelling around these United States. The climasx is they drive off of a cliff rather than be arrested.

I'm sorry. I do not see how this very visual movie can translate to a decent Broadway stage production. I predict it will join the other bad movie to Broadway versions that did not work.

I could be wrong but... I don

Just in Time - Matt Morrison?
 Jan 19 2026, 05:48:48 PM

I think the Producers would be crazy to close this show without a replacement. There are plenty of singing actors out there with star quality.  The weekly nut can't be that high as this is not a big  show.

Jonothan Groff is indeed a great performer and does a star turn as Bobby Darrin. He is incredibly impressive in the role  but outside of New York City , many people do not know his name. A Matt Morrison or Jeremy Jordon or even someone without a name with

Here is another idea:

Jesse Lo Protto was amazing in Gotta Dance.
He can carry it and do Darrin great Justice

To answer someone's question, this is what I saw this week.

Gotta Dance (American Dance Machine) - Best thing I saw all week.

Queen of Versailles

& Juiliet

The Bakers Wife

$ Juliet

Marjorie Prime

I saw Chess in London years ago, so I had no desire to revisit it.

I saw the original Ragtime and I have some desire to revisit it but haven't

I love good gay theatre. This is nothing like good gay theatre.  In spite of a very likable cast, I found this show incredibly dull and unfunny. The characters were gays at their worst which I suppose is the point (Messy White Gays) but all they did was snort cocaine, have sex and be bitchy.  Oh and hide bodies in furniture.

If you are expecting Boys in the Band or even Party, you will be terribly disappointed.  This is not written by a comedic talent. This show does gay

Caught this a few days ago. if this is where gay theatre is going shut it down now.

If you are expecting Boys in the Band or even Party.. which is great fun....look elsewhere.  The playwright does gays no favor in portraying them/us this way.

A huge embarrassment and a waste of time and money. Could not wait for the end and I did not laugh once at the in "hells kitchen jokes. It was a very lon

QoV post-mortems

I am a huge Kristin Chenowith fan.  I have seen her one woman concerts and  hermLily Garland/ Mildred Plotnick in On the 20th Century which blew me away. I  first heard her ( not seen) here on the Steel Pier CD and her voice jumped out at me.

I heard she had said something about Charlie Kirk but I don't think that that much bearing on the outcome of Queen of Versailles. I did not pay it much mind.

I was looking so forward to Queen

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES Reviews
 May 31 2025, 03:14:48 PM

My group of five theatre friends caught five musicals last week. Call us the Theatre 5!

We all liked most of them but we all enjoyed Real Woman Have Curves the best because it had a lot of heart and dealt with the current immigration situation which is heartbreaking in itself.  It also had joyous music and there was a standing ovation in the middle of the show as well as the end of the show.

I urge you to see it if you have not.

Sondheim & Ives’ HERE WE ARE headed to London’s National Theatre in 2025

Those poor Brits

Now they are going to have to suffer during this piss poor Sondheim Musical.

Awful night of disjointed unfinished theatre.

Original movie musical EMILIA PEREZ starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Selena Gomez wins three prizes at Cannes
 Nov 30 2024, 09:52:05 AM

This is a stunning film.

Who would have thought that a thriller movie could also be a musical that works!  Fascinating plotting and I became so invested in the characters. This one is Oscar Worthy. Great film for all and especially musical lovers.

Best film of the year so far.!!!

RIP Helen Gallagher
 Nov 30 2024, 09:46:33 AM

Helen Gallagher was Broadway

She was the maid  Nancy in High Button Shoes which made Broadway notice her in a supporting dancing role.

That lead to Jule Styne creatiing Hazel Flagg for which she played the lead. It's claim to fame is that it became a Jerry Lewis movie with Jerry starring in the role of Hazel now changed to Homer.

Her star faded a bit a  s Gwen Verdon came to light in Can Can and stole some of the dancing limelight from Helen Galla

Lorna Luft as Madame Morrible on Broadway?
 Nov 30 2024, 09:32:42 AM

Lorna Luft single handedly RUINED Adelaide in the Touring Company of Guys and Dolls.

How can you ruin Adelaide?

Do you really want her to get her hands on Madame Morrible?

LEMPICKA closing May 19
 May 2 2024, 07:42:17 PM

What a shame… This was one of my favorites of the new musicals  I can’t believe Suffs and hell‘s kitchen were nominated over this.  If you haven’t seen it, I would urge you all to see it. It’s a beautiful musical.

LEMPICKA Reviews

I caught the show with the Understudy.
I thought the understudy was terrific!!!!!!

In face, I really enjoyed the show much more than Suffs or Hell's Kitchen both which were dull to me.

I love the Lemicka story. And I loved that it spanned a whole century..

Catch it before it goes! Gorgeous set and some stunnning things  in it.

I agree. Back to the Future was so well done and so much fun.

And so much better than Hells Ktichen or Suffs.

Id rather sit through that again than Suffs (ugh so preachy and we know women got the vote so where is the drama?)

and Hells Kitchen (like an episode of One Day at a Time with Alicia Keys Music. That being said, Im glad the lead in hells kitchen and Kecia Lewis was nominated.  Kecia Lewis was wonderful.

To me the best musical of the year (have not seen Illiisnoise or Great Gatsby or Notebook or Outsiders

but to me LEMPICKA  was so much better than Suffs or Hell's Kitchen and even Water for Elephantts,

so Lempicka was ROBBED!

A WONDERFUL WORLD To Open On Broadway Fall 2024
 Feb 28 2024, 11:30:15 PM

Love me some Louis Armstrong. So off I shlepped to New Orleans to catch this pre Broadway "celeberatiion" of Louis Armstrong's life. Unfortuantelh, this show was a total yawn. I'm surprized they are even trying for Broadway.

Instead of celebrating Loius Armtroing we find out he cheated on his wife. That in a nutshell is the whole show. Mr Armsrtoing should be turning in his grave at was is defintely not a celebration of the life of Louis Armstroing.

This should
