Coming off their Broadway successes: Moore in a Tony Award winning performance in PURLIE and Davis in TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, these two talented performers who at this time were romantically involved were given a CBS Summer Variety show in 1972 occupying CAROL BURNETT SHOW's time slot.
The show got decent ratings and CBS was ready to green light it to full time, but in the interim Moore and Davis broke up and the show was scrapped altogether.
Here is a composite clip from the show's premiere episode. Moore and Davis share some "Sonny & Cher"-esque banter in the beginning and then segue way into renditions of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" and "I Got Love".
A comedy skit follows with Moms Mabley and special guest star Jean Stapleton. Melba then takes to the rooftop to sing "Don't Rain on My Parade".
The couple then do a very nice duet of Carole King's "You've Got A Friend".
Then it's back to the rooftop where Melba and Jean do a hilarious rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady".
Then Melba and Clifton duet on Davis' own "Never Can Say Goodbye"
I've heard so much about this show and I never got to see it.
Melba and Clifton were such an attractive, sexy couple. Too bad their relationship and this show didn't work out.
Glad I got a chance to see this.
There are some other clips as well.

The beginning of this clip was very prophetic as they really broke up not too long after this was filmed. Special Guest is Nancy Wilson.

MELBA and CLIFTON discuss the show & relationship
I used to watch that television show and I actually met Melba Moore one time. I worked in a mall all through college and she was there making an appearance. I just wanted to meet her and she handed me this autographed picture. I didn't even ask for that. I remember, she was very tiny in person. She has a great voice though!
