Nunn To Put The Wind Up 'Tiffanys'!

Nunn To Put The Wind Up 'Tiffanys'!

Trevor Nunn is to direct a musical version of the classic Audrey Hepburn movie 'Breakfast At Tiffanys' which is posed to open in October 2009.
He wants to bring together the same team s he had for this years wondrously disastrous 'Gone With The Wind'- without the Dr who wrote the music we can only hope!
He is quoted as saying that he can't let 'Gone with The Wind' ruin his reputation as a director of musicals!!! 'CATS' anyone?
He's bound to leave the ill fated 1960s Broadway bound version alone as that has such a bad history he really should start afresh if he's going to try and carry this off.

Hey, leave Cats alone! (although I can see how it would annoy some!)

Hmm interesting this one, I could see it more as a play than a musical. Funny choice really, a musical of a well known film to replace the flop of his other musical that was also a well known film. Could be history repeating itself! Surely he has redeemed himself with Little Night Music?!

Its really soon after 'Nigh Music' too, tho that will be well up and running in town when he starts on 'Tiffanys'. I'm gonna have get out my CD of the show now remind myself how bad it is!

Yes, leave Cats alone Mamma :)
It sounds like a really intresting project.. lets just hope it doesn't open at the New London..
Oh i wish Xanadu went to that theatre... re: Nunn To Put The Wind Up 'Tiffanys'!

Xanadu wouldn't fill the Novello, but it would be fine in the Duchess.

Speaking of the Duchess, isn't some straight play going in there? So much for musicals taking every venue in the West End!

The CD is a strange mixture of the two shows before the shambles arrived on Broadway. The CD cover is changeable for the two names the show had, 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and 'Holly Golightly'. It became 'Breakfast at Tiffanys' only when it arrived seriously undercooked on Broadway.

Undercooked? There were so many cooks in the kitchen that I don't think the show ever made it into the oven!

The original book and film are legend. Leave them the hell alone.

It never officially opened on Broadway. It had its first preview on Dec 12th 1966 and played four previews!

Not quite sure how I feel about this one.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is my all-time favourite movie, hands down! However, looking at the history of the original musical then I am not quite sure what to expect. I can imagine if it's a West End production of the original show then I will not be happy but if it's a new musical all together then I can't see any reason not to look forward to it. We need a good Holly though, let's be honest, without that it's just not worth it.

As much as I adore Mary Tyler Moore I think she was wrong for the part!

Xanadu would be awesome in the New London, but I think it would still risk getting swallowed up in there.

re: Nunn To Put The Wind Up 'Tiffanys'!

I love Bob Merrill's Breakfast At Tiffany's score (in fact I love Bob Merrill in general - one of the most underrated musical theatre songwriters in my opinion). But they never managed to solve the problems with the book for this show - and it was always going to suffer from people expecting "Moon River" and not getting it! I'd love to see a production that brings this score to life but I'm apprehensive regarding whether this is possible.

This is a misreport. It's a play not a musical. Based on the novella, not the movie. And Trevor Nunn isn't the director.

Yeah, joining a board to make one post with what seems like unsubsantiated information can be annoying but the information in the original post is also unsubstantiated. Trevor Nunn isn't attached. It's not a musical. There was a workshop of the play in London a couple of months ago.

re: Nunn To Put The Wind Up 'Tiffanys'!

A play could be good, i just think a musical would be a mess again

I have to disagree with the lovely bob8rich, i think the score is very bland, one or 2 songs popped out but most of the score was serviceable at best
