Make sure you all post on here once you do get the email, so that we know it's out there. The initial email didn't say whether we would get a response if we didn't get chosen.
"Why in the world would they need seat fillers? Why not bring down the folks who've already paid an arm and a leg to sit in the balconies?"
Because you can't order around people who paid for their seat. They fill the seat that is made empty by the performer going up on stage. That performer will come back to their seat, so the filler moves. They never get to just sit in the same seat all night.

It happens on the odd occasion. A friend of mine got placed in a seat belonging to someone who never showed up at the top of the telecast, so she got to stay there the whole time. But yeah, you shouldn't count on that. It's a lot of running around, but a fun experience, IMO.
Is the way they pick people random? Or is it first-come, first-serve? Looking at the application (which was basically your name, contact info and how you heard about them), it does not seem that they could really set any standards by which to judge you.
And they said they would confirm the list by May 15th (yesterday), so hopefully something will go out on Monday.
I got an email, they didn't accept me.

me neither
I'm kind of mad, I think they should choose mainly people who have never done it. They should give everyone a chance. I just asked them if they have a waiting list or something but I haven't gotten a response yet.
I don't know how old any of you are- but is there an age requirement?
I'm not sure if there is or not. I'm 14 but I didn't include that in my application so that didn't effect my be chosen. I don't see why it would matter, I could easily buy a ticket and seat where the seat fillers would be sitting.

What?
They don't use seat fillers where you would be if you bought tickets.

I agree about giving everyone a chance. Please post if you get a response back.

Well they seat them in the orchestra and don't they sell the back of the orchestra to the public?
I just wonder if they look for a certain age range.
I would think they have a requirement of at least 18.
- Sorry you didn't get chosen.
I didn't even know where to apply.
I'll buy another lottery ticket.

I have been a seat filler for the past 2 years. For the most part, it seemed like they tend to pick people who have some connection to Tonys (i.e. connections to the producers, management, etc.) or people who have been seat filling for a long time.
It's a great time. Last year I got to sit in the same seat the entire show but my first year I was up and down and all over the place and got to sit next to some pretty awesome people (and got to be on tv when someone right by me won).

I got an email back:
They are keeping there own waiting list and if people drop out, they will email those who were not initially excepted. They also said the 80% of the people who got it were new applicants.

Does anyone know of any acceptances that have been e-mailed yet?
I didn't get accepted either! Oh well! The selection must be pretty random. There really is nothing on the application that can be judged.

They turned away hundreds of people.

Wow...if that is a copy and paste of their answer, they seriously need someone who can proofread their communication. Yeouch!

Not that I'm aware of. I'm fairly certain that if you buy tickets, they're upstairs in the balconies. I could be wrong, but when I was there, the back of the orchestra was definitely still people involved in the shows -- non-nominated actors from nominated shows, producers, etc.
I didn't get accepted either. (And I'm 20, if that makes a difference to anyone).

Did you all get the letters yesterday? I haven't received an e-mail yet. I have a feeling they lost my application or something
I'm pretty sure they haven't sent out acceptances yet, defscott, so that might be a good thing.
